Half Birthday!

I can't believe it! Leif is six months old today!

He's getting so big. Last time we measured, he was 17 pounds, but that was about a month ago.

He can do so much. He's been able to stand for months, but now he'll walk holding onto our fingers. He's not crawling yet, but we can't just leave him in one place anymore. He somehow manages to scoot himself around - we're not exactly sure how. We just look up and he's a few inches away from where we put him down, facing the other direction! He can sit up on his own for a few minutes before getting distracted and falling over.

He no longer likes lying on his back, and, if you try to put him down on his back, he'll flip over pretty quickly. This is a bit of a switch - a month and a half ago, he cried if placed on his stomach.

He likes anything he can stick in his mouth and chew. Dill pickle spears are his favorite!

He seems to really like things that are green and yellow.

He has quite an eclectic taste in music. His favorite songs are "Seven Bridges Road" by the Eagles, "If I Had A Hammer", and "The Itsy Bitsy Spider".

He likes puppets. Other stuffed toys are ok, as long as they're green and yellow.

He loves splashing around in the water at bath time. We're planning to start swimming lessons next week, assuming I can find somewhere that sells bathing suits in winter!

He's already an adrenaline junkie, and loves being tossed and swung around. He'd very much like it if I did that 24 hours a day, but I don't have the energy.

His two bottom teeth are struggling to come in. I can feel little sharp bits, and he hasn't been too fussy these past few nights, so perhaps the worst is over (for those two teeth, anyways).

He's getting pumpkin pie baby food for his birthday dinner. He occasionally gets baby food, but more often just mouths big-people food, like lettuce or pickles. He likes playing with his food at least as much as actually eating.

He's starting to wiggle off my lap when he wants to play on the ground.

Today we bought him a tricycle because Imaginarium is going out of business, and had some really great ones for 30% off. We put him on it just for fun. He reached for the handlebars and was trying to reach the pedals with his feet. If he'd been a bit bigger, he would have been gone in a second.

He's starting to develop separation anxiety. If he realizes he can't see one of us, he gets pretty upset. I'm using the sling a lot more to get things done around the house.

Still, he's a very happy, fun baby.

Anyways, Leif is telling me he would like my full attention, so I should probably go feed him dinner. He is the half-birthday boy, after all.

A bunch of new pictures from our trip to California and Christmas are posted at http://www.ansible.org/~jess/leif/

yep, my 'friends growing up, getting married, having babies' phase is in top gear - officially.

got email from my mom about someone I swam with in high school getting married and buying a house, my cousin's baby is a year old already and they've been married eight years (!), a few friends of mine (two of them a few years younger, yikes) have kids in various manners, and Leif is 6 months old and you two seem like old parents already :).

the thought scares the hell out of me until I live in a place where I would actually LIKE to buy a house and settle in, i.e. not Pittsburgh.

congrats, cute pictures definately. :)
