Things the children do

At the library today, Leif found a book, and asked me if it was a Maisy book. It wasn't, but it was by the same author. I found it somewhat impressive that he can recognize an artistic style even though it probably isn't really all that impressive. Or it might be impressive if he'd asked me if something was a Picasso, and not a style used in popular children's books and movies.

Astrid seems to be getting more potty aware every day. She's suddenly very adamant about wanting her diaper changed ASAP, and I think she tried to use the potty today, but couldn't quite figure out the anatomical logistics of conscious control (or pooping in a non-squatting position.

Earlier today I heard her crying in the other room, and went to get her. We had this conversation:

Me: You sound really angry! (It was quite definitely angry-sounding upset)
Astrid: Yeah!
Me: What's wrong?
Astrid: Blanche! ([livejournal.com profile] silkensteel)
Me: You're mad that Blanche because she won't let you in the bathroom? (That seemed to be the context)
Astrid: Yeah!

She's building with blocks again. She's pretty cool.

Even if it is pop culture, I still think that it is am important logical skill that he is making connections. I wouldn't discount it just because it is pop (sort of) culture.
