I've become a little obsessed with the idea of avocado as dessert. I don't actually really like avocados. Guacamole - yes, plain avocado - no. Many cultures swear by it though, so there must be something to it.

I made an avocado smoothie today, and it was alright. The texture was pretty amazing, but neither [livejournal.com profile] koyote or I could quite get past the flavor. He felt it really needed to be savory, with more salt. I wondered what it would have been like with a little added sweetener rather than just fruit (I threw in the last little bits of Leif's green juice, some kiwis, and some orange juice).

It may have been a little too much, though. I'm left feeling slightly nauseous. I'm not sure how much off that is psychological and how much is because avocados are rich.

I found a recipe for an avacado-lime pie which is supposedly indistinguishable from ordinary key lime pie. Interesting.

I'm similarly fascinated with the concept of eggplant as dessert, but have yet to try it, (and may not, as there is a lot less prior art). Baba ganoush seems made for dessertification, texturewise anyways.

I hope Leif wakes up soon so he'll sleep at a reasonable time tonight. He's been out for 3.5 hours now, and goes back to sleep every time he wakes briefly. Next time he gets up, perhaps I'll just drag him outside.

I'm not sure how I feel about LJ's new school directory function. I've added myself, but don't know if I'll leave myself there.

Someone I know is in love with his own goats-milk/avocado smoothie. I...just... I don't know.

I'd love totry the avocado lime pie, though I'll have to look up the recipe, as I have key limes. I love key lime pie, but there's just so much SCM in it, it makes my head explode. Avocados are fabulous "gonna burn lots of calories later, need stuff now so it takes me longer to get hungry" food. If someone were to make a guacamole-flavored energy bar, I'd be in utter heaven. But I also wish people would make breakfast bars that tasted like breakfast.

SCM = sweetened condensed milk? (Man, I can't type right now, that took me four tries). If so, it's still there.

I believe I've found someone I knew in college through that directory already. SHe's changed religion, surname, and haircolor, but the first name is the same (although common), the pictures look right, the taste in music matches, the height matches, the years she was there matches...I will not, hawever, be pursuing further information, because I do not need that kind of drama generator in my life now.

I think I found someone, too. Age, previous location, and the year she attended fit, and her userpic looks right. Writing voice matches, too.

Damn, it does. That sucks. I was hoping the richness of the avocado... maybe I can come up with something. I bet I can.

I'm trying to think of some sort of replacement. Maybe lightly sweetened coconut milk, or silken tofu or something?

Avacado as a dessert? While I am not a fan of the avacado myself, much of my family is... Would you care to share some of your recipes?

I don't really have any specific recipes - this smoothie was the first (and so far only) thing I tried. I stuck about 1 1/2 avocados in the blender along with a few kiwis, the last bit of Leif's Odwalla Superfood juice, the juice of one orange, a bit of yogurt, and some ice cubes. I think that was it :) Like I said, it probably could have used a bit more sweetener, maybe a spoonfull of honey or something. Until I added the orange juice it really didn't taste sweet at all.
