Last summer was a bit of a slog for me - getting sick, teaching, ending up with recurrent migraines... I was getting a bit desperate. I was aware that my shoulder problems and neck problems (and hence migraines) were related, and that I was having more problems with my shoulders. (Thank you perimenopause! And also, probably, less training than is ideal, but then my training was going pretty well until I got sick.) So one day MedCline was having a bit more of a sale than usual, and I sprang for their pillow thing. (Which came with a whole body pillow thing, which hasn't been taken out of its wrappings - I've tried them before, and they annoy me.)

The good: it did take strain off my shoulder.

The bad: OMG, where do I start?  Read more... )

Good morning, afternoon, and evening!

We're doing some database and other light server maintenance this weekend (upgrading the version of MySQL we use in particular, but also probably doing some CDN work.)

I expect all of this to be pretty invisible except for some small "couple of minute" blips as we switch between machines, but there's a chance you will notice something untoward. I'll keep an eye on comments as per usual.

Ta for now!

If I get to be elderly enough to have dementia I'll be one of those old ladies they can pacify with a lifelike baby doll. I can just see myself, too addled to realize it's not a real baby, cradling it so tenderly and just weeping. I would be devastated and suicidal if they every take it away. When coherence and conscious thought is stripped away, I will be at my core, a mother.

I am many things but this is my heart. This is the woman You are treating like this, this is whose decades of pleading for help, or at least mercy, was answered with one fresh hell after another until she just begs to be left alone.

DW is seeing some issues due to today's Amazon outage. For right now it looks like the site is loading, but it may be slow. Some of our processes like notifications and journal search don't appear to be running and can't be started due to rate limiting or capacity issues. DW could go down later if Amazon isn't able to improve things soon, but our services should return to normal when Amazon has cleared up the outage.

Edit: all services are running as of 16:12 CDT, but there is definitely still a backlog of notifications to get through.

Edit 2: and at 18:20 CDT everything's been running normally for about the last hour.
