Man, why does Accuweather call for wintery mix every time the temp is forecast to get above 65? That really makes no sense.

Speaking of which, the high today is supposed to get above 65.

Leif is recovering. He's still got a yucky sounding productive cough and a runny nose, but hasn't had a high temperature in 36 hours or so.

Astrid is starting to get a fever, though. I seriously hope it doesn't get as high as his does (that would be an ER trip at her age), but she seems alert and reasonably happy and is eating just fine, so I'm not quite worried yet.

Yesterday Leif found a slug, which was put in a jar with holes punched in the top along with a leif of lettuce and became his first pet. He named it something Lovecraftian and unpronouncable, so we called it Sluggy for short.

He loved the slug, and said the slug loved him, and carried it around with him everywhere.

Sluggy lost his first home in an unfortunate disaster involving much shattered glass (Note to self: Get a plastic bug habitat), but seemed to survive unscathed, and he and his lettuce were transfered to a new home.

At night, he cuddled the jar the while he slept. And his birdhouse kit. I wish he'd choose softer sleeping companions.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid Sluggy met an untimely demise at some point during the night. He's lying there in a little pool of fluid and not moving. Of course, he's a slug, so it's hard to tell for sure.

Fortunately, Leif seems to have lost most of his interest in Sluggy, and it's possible he can disappear unnoticed and we can sidestep the awkward death discussion a little longer.

R.I.P. Sluggy.

I think I just got bit by a mosquito.

This annoys me muchly.
