School is going ok so far.
Nutrition does not start until October. I worry a little that the shortened class will mean a difficult workload. I also worry that I'll have to buy the online access pack deal, and even moreso that it will require buying it bundled with a new book.
Psych seems pretty straightforward, low workload, and otherwise unremarkable.
I'm not sure about physiology. So far it all seems like review of stuff I've been exposed to before... but all stuff I've struggled with before.
History... OMG. This is the class I'm taking televised, with the teacher who dislikes tank tops and bathroom breaks. The thing that keeps me interested is anticipation of what looney thing will be said next. Last week, he espoused the idea that Neanderthals had a larger collective memory than cro magnons (ala Clan Of The Cave Bear).
Loonyness aside, he isn't a bad lecturer, but the class is way too slow-paced for something televised. Assuming the tests aren't killer, it shouldn't be too horrible, as the only assignment is submitting summaries of the lectures to prove we watched. Making time to watch the lectures is going to be an ongoing issue, though. My original thought was that I could find a way to download the audio into something I could put on my ipod, but I think the summaries have to be a little more detailed than that would allow.
I apologize to those on IRC who get stuck listening to me bitching about it.
I've started handsewing baby shoes during class. It looks like I can do about a shoe per lecture if all the pieces are ready to go. This provides me with a great outlet for fidgetiness (which has always been a problem for me), and is good advertising - a guy in my lab group asked me to make a pair for him.
Speaking of which - any of you know if a shoe with a cloth lining can be bronzed? He wants something girly, and I can't currently do girly in all leather (except black and purple, which I suppose I could do, but he didn't say "make a pair just like that" and I was working on black and purple at the time).
Beeb now has shoes, though I think she may need a size larger, in which case these (black and purple - very much like the previous pair but with solid purple suede edging) will be passed on.
How much would you pay for a handsewn leather (or leather with cloth lining) soft soled shoe? Similar to robeez, though I probably won't do much in the way of cute designs on top, since I'm just not artistic in that way).
The bike ride is about 10 miles each way (so 40-60 miles per week, depending on whether I ride every day), and fine except that my arms are breaking out in a (short-term) rash, despite washing with soap and water as soon as I get there/home. I hope this is something seasonal that goes away soon.
One of the women from my human development class showed up in physiology today. She'd thought it started today - the other community college districts, where she's also taking classes, starts today. Luckily, the teacher hadn't dropped her. I am happy for her mixup, as it's probably the reason I got into the class, and it's early enough that it shouldn't impact her too badly. Anyways, we were talking about the human development class, and she said two interesting things.
She remarked that the professor had seemed distracted some sort of personal issue and had been both more lenient and more snippy/irritable and distracted (she's taken classes from her before, and had a basis for comparison). Which is interesting, as it jives with what I thought felt off about her.
She also said the class was the hardest she'd ever taken, which is interesting, as it certainly wasn't for me. Not that it was the easiest, but it wasn't hard. She's a UCD biology major, so obviously not stupid (and I imagine she'll have an easier time of this class than me). Just different types of intelligence, I guess.
She's also taking a class at another college from friend-professor whose class at this college was cancelled, so I feel less sorry for her now. Especially since commuting from Davis to WCC to ARC would suck.
