I smell like tomato plants.

I heard an odd noise in the front yard at around 3:20, peaked out the window, and there were the ducks, having a blast. Apparently someone had tried to fix the gate, which they can squeeze out under and that had been blocked off with some large objects, without realizing that the damn things are like rats, and somehow a duck the size of a dog (and I'm not talking a chihuahua) can apparently squeeze through a 1" gap, and any fixing really needs to extend all the way down.

So I managed to herd them away from the street and the neighbor's house (and backyard full of barky dog), through the garden, and back through the gate. Except only two of them actually made it back to the backyard. The other dissapeared. Once its buddies were gone, it hunkered down and stopped quacking.

A bit of poking around the garden revealed something white in the tomato bush. I wasn't quite sure if it was the quacker, so I reached out and touched it, which wasn't the brightest idea ever, as it just ran further back in the bush.

I went back inside at this point and got a flashlight, then went out to try to poke at the silly thing through the inpenetrable thicket of tomato plants. It didn't work. So I called [livejournal.com profile] koyote out to help, and of course the duck decided to wander on out and back into the yard before he could get his sandals on.

So, how did you sleep last night?
