Feb. 27th, 2005 04:46 pmI'm being very neglectful with this journal.
Yesterday, Leif went rollerblading. Some children came to the park on rollerblades and Leif, being obsessed with both shoes and wheels, could not resist the combination of the two. When they took the skates off, he tried to put them on. We were unable to resist such an opportunity, so we stuck the smaller pair (which were still entirely too big) on his feet and helped him skate around for a while.

Actually, he was kind of starting to get the hang of it. I'm a little scared of what he might be able to do with skates that actually fit him.
He's obsessed with 2-wheel bikes, too. Kids these days, trying to grow up so fast!
Since this is not a leap year, Leif does not get a birthday this month. Therefore, he will have to remain 19 months for another month.
(At least this is what Christof tells people. I just say he's 20 months old.)
He's not talking much more than I reported last time, but he seems to be using words more purposefully. For example, he says "Na" very insistently when he wants to eat or drink. This stemmed from "banana", but seems to now refer to any food-like substance.
He gets very frustrated by the fact that he is able to do much more than he is allowed to do, such as open the refrigerator and get out food whenever he wants, turn on the water faucet and splash water everywhere, or climbing up to pound on the computer monitor. Lately, he's been starting to hit the Terrible Twos a few months early, and has been throwing major fits about such things. Such fun!
But really, it's neat what all he's able to do. When he wants to go outside, he'll put on his shoes, and then hand me my shoes, as well. If he sees that Christof is going out, he'll hand him his hat and sunglasses. He draws with chalk. He walks along balanced on narrow edges (like sidewalk curbs). He climbs ladders of all sorts. He takes everything out of the basket of the stroller, sticks it in the seat, and pushes the stroller around. He'll stand up on his tiptoes, trying to jump, but hasn't quite figured out how to get off the ground yet.
As I mentioned, he loves shoes. Our experience with shoe shopping is that if you put a pair on his feet, you'd better be prepared to go with that pair (or, at worst, an identical pair in a diffferent size), because he immediately falls in love with anything that goes on his feet and does not want them taken off under and circumstances.
We have lots of digital pictures, but very few actual printouts, and I'm currently sorting through our 3464 photos (ok, probably only about 3000 of them are actually of Leif), trying to put together a scrapbook to remedy this situation. This is a rather daunting task, even though I'm separating it out by year. I think there are near 1000 from his first month alone!
Speaking of pictures... new pictures are posted at http://www.ansible.org/~jess/leif/.

Date: 2005-02-28 03:10 am (UTC)Anyway, again, gorgeous, gorgeous boy. It's also nice to see evidence that blond children eventually get a decent amount of hair. :)

Date: 2005-02-28 04:22 pm (UTC)In think one Leif looks like he has hair when a lot of blondies don't is that we aren't cutting it. (and why would we, daddy has pretty long hair over here)

Date: 2005-02-28 04:28 pm (UTC)His kneecaps are coming in, and he's been able to figure out the most basic aspects of "step on pedal, bike move".
He does have a kettler trike that might be a better first, but he sees bikes and is smart enough to know one ain't like the other.
In other news, he also pushes everyone else's strollers, is playing very well in social toddler games (mostly chase me and let's all go down the slide together type stuff). He likes to hug other kids, shares food, but also gets grumpy if food isn't shared with him.
He also considers himself graduated from baby swings and like to go on the standard sling seat ones, though he still sometimes falls off when getting out.
