How many kids? While it's certainly not something I'd do for any significant length of time, I'm having a hard time seeing a quick bathroom run as a problem -- they're probably safer in the car than running semi-loose, and it doesn't sound like she was gone long enough for the car to get dangerously hot...
That was my thought, too. Depending on the weather and the number of kids, I can completely justify this. With the twins, especially, if I know I am going to be less than five minutes, and the weather isn't extreme in either direction, I will leave them in the van. Especially a gas station bathroom. Ugh... They're still at that point where they touch EVERYTHING and a lot of it still goes in their mouths. Sometimes I'll even leave the van running and just take the remote so I can lock it. If they're asleep and I just need ot chekc my mail, nothing on God's green Earth would get me to wake them. I would never do this with kids that are able to get themselves in an dout of the car for the most part, but sometimes it is just not worth the extra time it takes to get them all in and out when you can be back in half that time if you go on your own. Their mom knows I do this and I would never od it some place I don't know.
! I am so bad about stuff like that. I saw a dog in a car recently and I was about to call the cops when the owner came out. She looked like she was going to do more shopping, but I told her if she left her dog in the car again, I'd call the cops. I made sure she didn't just move it, either. Recently, Ted and I went shopping at Target and when we got back to our car noticed that the car next to ours had two very small children in it alone. i was going to go tell store security, but it turned out the father was putting his cart away. It's shitty, but I realize leaving for a minute when you have to happens, but he wasn't even alone-- an older gentleman was with him. I would have sneaked over to the kids and told them to tell their mommy. :p
