We spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Whole Earth Festival. Not the whole day, but a large portion of all of them. [livejournal.com profile] koyote ended up working at the main stage for much of it, and I did security there today. Which was fine - I mainly sat in the shade, took care of Beeb, and peoplewatched or talked with friends who walked by, occasionally telling people they couldn't walk through/set up camp in the backstage area. Only a few argued. I now have a free tie dye shirt.

Yesterday morning I tried to go to a birth talk with one of the local homebirth midwives, but she didn't show up and only one other person did. I went and found her at the midwifery booth and asked what was up, and she hadn't even known she was scheduled, so I went back to the tent to keep an eye out for any other interested people who might show up, but they didn't, so we talked one-on-one in the booth for a while instead. I got the impression she would happily have talked for hours. In fact, I was the one who broke off the conversation so she could get back to working the booth. I talked to her at WEF last year (when I was 20 weeks pregnant), and didn't get a great vibe from her then, but I did this time. Not sure what the difference was - different mindset on my part? That I'd shown myself as someone who was interested in birth beyond simply someone thinking about a homebirth? Better weather? In any case, I'm glad I had the experience, because she's really interesting and everyone whose had her as a midwife raves about her.

We got to see [livejournal.com profile] essara_lemuroid and her husband and Zander again, which was nice, and which made Leif ecstatic. We'd told him that Zander might be there, so I was glad we didn't disappoint him! They play like puppies.

Also saw [livejournal.com profile] jenfullmoon and I think [livejournal.com profile] barelyproper, but she was over on the other side of the stage at the time so we didn't talk. And I got a chance to talk with one of the moms in the homeschooling group who I like but rarely get to talk to - turns out she lives a few blocks away from us, so I'm thinking we may need to start up some sort of playgroup, as there's now three of us in the group with ~4 year olds who live within about two blocks of eachother.

Leif made friends with the 8 year old daughter of the Karmaflage tie dye guy. She sang at the main stage a few times, and has a voice like you wouldn't believe - she doesn't sound like a kid while singing.

We shared the cookies I made with the raw food vendor, and they were impressed. Their chocolate was yummy.

I bought [livejournal.com profile] koyote a leatherbound notebook. It's rare I see something that jumps out at me as perfect for him, but these did. He got me a bag, which will hopefully work out as a diaper bag type thing. I wanted to get a necklace of some sort, but they didn't really have anything Beebsafe, so that will have to wait for another year.

We left around 5 today when Leif had a meltdown. He was asking for chocolate nuts, and we thought he meant a chocolate covered banana with nuts, as he'd had and enjoyed one on Friday. But he actually meant chocolate covered nuts, and burst into tears when he saw the banana. So I had to eat it. Poor me. We went home and he napped for several hours, which was problematic, as he got up again at about 9:30 or so. I'd been hoping he'd sleep through. He's still awake now, but happily watching Babar in the dark (which he won't do unless he's pretty tired), so I don't think it will be too much longer. On the other hand, he's sitting there singing the alphabet song and talking very wakily. I napped briefly too, or I'd be a whole lot grumpier about it than I am.

I had a nightmare last night that I couldn't shake. It wasn't scary so much as a numeration of all my personal failings. Hard to say "It was just a dream" when it's like that. Despite that, weapons practice went pretty well, though I was grumpy up until I ate lunch (which may have had more to do with forgetting to eat until 1PM than the dream).
