And the word of the day is "Thingy"!
Jul. 28th, 2001 10:13 pmTonight I decided it was time I tried out the exercise room and pool. It was somewhat entertaining.
The exercise room is reasonably decent - a bunch of exercise bike type things, a treadmill, a stair climber, some rowing machine type things, a ski machine which doesn't appear to work, and a number of weight lifting thingies.
The previous sentence undoubtedly makes it very clear how little time I've spent in gyms. Weight lifting thingies? Sorry, my brain is apparently fried.
I don't think I really got much of a workout, though I was sweating. My main purpose today was checking things out and learning how they worked. Still, I was continuously moving for 45 minutes or so in one way or another. That can't be bad.
After the exercise room, I went swimming to cool off (I'd worn my bathing suit under my clothes). That was nice, sitting in the cool water staring up at the stars. Didn't stay in too long, though, as I had my contacts in and no goggles. Swimming around with your eyes closed isn't much fun.
Even beyond the exercise, today was a rather productive day for a Saturday. In the morning, I cleaned the apartment. Not that it needed all that much cleaning, since I've only been here 3 weeks, and I've been cleaning it every week since my parents have been visiting. The dishes were piling up though, and the kitchen and bathroom floors were a bit messy. Not stuff I'd usually worry about, but someone who's interested in the extra room was supposed to be coming by today to check it out. She didn't (emailed later and said she'd be by tomorrow).
I also got the old pentium running again, for demonstration purposes. Someone else is supposed to be coming by tomorrow to pick up some old monitors I have lying around, and I'm hoping to sell/give/pay him to take away that old thing as well, since it sounds like he makes a hobby out of putting together old computers.
If I felt like putting a few hours/dollars into it, I could do something useful with it. In fact, even if I didn't put any time/money into it, I probably could. It was doing useful work in it's current state for quite a while. I'd probably even enjoy doing it. But it's just too much of an electricity and space waste to be worth it. I'll get a linksys dsl router thingy instead.
I also cooked dinner, which is something I'm really trying to do more often. Made chicken and rice. Nothing complicated (The rice was from a mix, and the chicken was the frozen type), but it was tasty.
