I wonder what it says when, while looking at the message boards on classmates.com, you see a posting asking about a certain teacher and think, "Was he the one who hijacked a plane to Cuba, or the one who started the drug smuggling operation?"

I'm tempted to pay my $5.00 or whatever just to ask the question.

In other classmates.com news, of interest to exactly two of you, who probably already know anyways... Mrs. Clark, Mrs. Stansbury, Mr. Thomas, Mr. Duby, Mr. Thangaraj, Mr Collom and Mrs. Howse retired last year. I thought Mrs. Clark and Mr. Collom retired a few years ago, actually. Mr. Thangaraj surprises me - I didn't know he was that old. That was posted by Linda Kullman.

whoa... who hijacked the plane? and who started the drug smuggling ring? how did I miss those memos?

Well, I'm pretty sure that Lou Villar (the teacher mentioned on classmates.com) was one or the other of them.

My dad had the Spanish teacher that hijacked the plane. He was apparently a really awful teacher. The teacher that started the drug ring was, I think, the one after him. I can't remember the whole story, but he and a group of students smuggled drugs up from Mexico in a motor boat. The operation eventually got pretty big, and they got busted.

I'm not having luck finding anything about it online.

Makes our group of Spanish teachers seem normal.

OK, I thought you were talking aboout one of the teachers we had. Suddenly I had this (not to believable) image of Anzuini with an M16 on a plane to Cuba and another (very believable) one of Smokey smugling drugs in. Lou Vallar was the drug guy. My mom's first husband was actually involved in that whole mess. He went to jail for it, which is why she divorced him.
