Cold makes me feel alive

My real entry for the day. About fear, tumbleweed, weather, co-workers, more weather, birds, and that damn math placement test.
If you haven't read my other entry and know anything about Italian music, please do! :) (Yes, I'm going to do my best to keep that link in the forefront until someone tells me what it is or I decide it's too late for Christmas this year)
At midnight last night, just as I was drifting off, the phone rang.
Both my housemate and I ended up dragging ourselves out of bed once the answering machine kicked in, but the person didn't leave a message. We tried *69, but it didn't work. We figured that it wasn't anything important, or they would have left a message or called again. So I went back and tried to sleep, but spent the next hour and a half or so lying there in utter terror.
This was completely pointless and idiotic, of course. The worst it would have been was a prank call (which is really quite likely, judging from the time of the call), but I was utterly convinced, in that way you get when it's the middle of the night and you're not truly awake but not really asleep either, that some insane murderer was going to break in and kill us all.
Aren't you supposed to leave these monster under the bed fears behind when you turn 7 or so?
I finally got to sleep. Woke up when my alarm went off at 7:30. Stayed in bed for another 10 minutes. Showered. Came back to my room and sat around listening to the radio as I got dressed. Minus the staying in bed for an extra 10 minutes, this is my ordinary routine. So I was sitting there idly playing with a sock before putting it on, when I look at my watch and realize that I should be at the bus stop *now*. So I quickly rush through getting my socks and shoes on, shove junk in my backpack, and head off to the bus.
I waited around for about 5 minutes. It was later than the bus usually showed up, but only by a minute or two, and it was quite foggy, so there was a reasonable chance that it hadn't shown up yet. But it didn't, which I was happy about, because it gave me time to go to the grocery store and get a orange-cranberry bagel and an eggnog latte (which was predictably kinda gross. I think I should stick with the caramel mochas from now on).
There was a big old tumbleweed sitting my the bus stop. I have no idea where it came from. Well, that's not true. It probably came from the field down the street a ways. I'm just confused about how it got to the bus stop. Did it tumble into the street, down a few blocks, and then back up on the curb a ways? Or perhaps it fell off a passing truck - but why in the world would a truck be carring around tumbleweed?
It's getting colder in the mornings. If it gets much colder, I'll either need to start showering at night, or take the time to blow-dry my hair in the morning, so it won't freeze. I'd guess it was in the high 30's this morning, though now that the fog hass cleared out, it seems to be getting quite a bit nicer. Next week, they're predicting lows in the teens and highs in the 30s on a few days. If that actually happens, we're in trouble - the houses around here aren't really designed for below freezing temperatures. But I tend to take weather predictions for that far in advance with a grain of salt.
If I had to choose the one thing I like best about my job, it would definetly be my co-workers. Of course, there are some that I don't get along with. A co-worker is also the biggest problem at my job. But for the most part, they're all great. I know, I could probably find great co-workers anywhere. But I like *these* ones :) Oddly, it's my closest co-workers who I tend to have the most problems with. Most of the other groups seem to be very close. We aren't. No one really has any clue what anyone else is doing. We recently got a new person in our group, who I think might really help bring us closer together. She's trying, I can tell. And I really hope it will help.
You know, I feel really dumb going to google and searching for phrases such as "face made out of a nose", and other similar things. I just hope that people have fun reading their referrer logs.
This windowless office is making me feel claustrophobic today. so I stepped outside for a minute. It was nice for a while around 2 pm, but since then (it's now 5), it's returned to cold and foggy. I'm not complaining - I love this weather. Cold makes me feel alive. There was a flock of birds circling around overhead, and there must have been a bit of a gap in the fog, because they changed tone as they flew over - from grey to black, then back to grey as they re-entered the clouds.
I think that I'm going to head off to the city college offices, and find out whether I really *have* to take this math placement test, and whether the results are mandatory, or just a reccomendation. Because I've taken Algebra II/Trig in high school, and I'd really rather not take them again, but looking back over my Trig material, there's no way I'll do well on that portion of the test.
Perhaps it would be better for me to just take it over again, and get a better background. I just barely passed it in high school, and I think I forgot everything the minute the final was over. On the other hand, if I actually need the information, I have my old textbook and work, so I can review if it turns out I've forgotten something I need.
Anyways, enough on that. I've gone on about that subject quite enough here as it is.
