7 days and counting...

Random k5 question of the day - anyone know where #genx is located these days?
That, and homelessness, frivolous lawsuits, and other things that can ruin your day.
#genx is the irc channel for alt.society.generation-x. Last time I went, it was on openmind.net, which seems to have disappeared, as has q.net. Tried dalnet, which was it's home when I started visiting it, but it doesn't appear to be there, either.
Now, I know that one of you out there reading this knows what I'm talking about, because I run into a.s.g-x'ers just about everywhere I go online. I can't imagine k5 would be an exception.
Today I found out that I can't move into the new apartment until July 6th. They originally told me the 2nd, and possibly the 1st, if I was lucky.
I have to be out of my current place by midnight of the 30th, and they'd prefer earlier.
oops.
I've thought of a few alternatives. Perhaps they'll let me move into the garage here and stay a few extra days in exchange for clearing out of the part of the house that needs maintenance early. That would be workable for a week. But I doubt that the next tenants would be crazy about that idea.
Another possibility is that this is a college town, and there's 80293402840928308428408234 students who are desperate to sublease a room or two. I could probably find someone who would let me rent a room for a week or two, since at this point in the summer it's unlikely that someone will come along who is actually looking for a room for the whole summer.
As a complete last resort, we might be able to bully the current rental agency into letting me stay an extra few days by bringing up the fact that our one year lease started on July 6th of last year, and it isn't our fault that they decided people could move in before our lease was up. Unfortunatly, my roommates apparently lost our copy of the lease, or this might be a very effective option.
This is assuming that I can't talk the apt. complex into sticking me in an open unit or something. There must be at least one available.
If I didn't have cats, this wouldn't be so much of a pain. They're wonderful, but it makes finding somewhere to live around here much more of a chore.
Lesson I've learned from this: Get things in writing, especially if they seem to be waffling about it.
The insanely low-level math class I'm taking is going well. Very time consuming, but I'm understanding everything just fine (thank God, I'd seriously have problems with myself if I wasn't able to understand material that I could understand in 9th grade). And socially, it's a lot of fun.
Work is sucking. It's the end of the fiscal year, and we're behind on billing, so it's a mad rush to get everything done. Plus, they're moving our group to a different area of the building. And we're moving our webserver to a different server where we don't have to deal with a particular admin. So I'm moving at home, and moving physically at work, and moving electronically at work. Fun!
My main email/shell/web/etc. server was down for a month, due to a combination of bad circumstances. About a week ago, it came back up on the admin's DSL line as a temporary measure. Unfortunatly, PacBell seems to have taken offense to this, changed his IP address, and is apparently filtering incoming connections. I suppose we're just lucky they didn't shut him off entirely for ToS violations.
I want to write a story about the GeorgeK issue (see also this), as the situation continues to grow increasingly more bizarre (The story linked is a year+ old. Trust me, it only gets worse from there. Court ordered spamming, for one). Unfortunatly, free time is not my strong point at the moment, and this will take some work in order to get the story across while being sensitive to the ongoing legal situation.
