Several years ago, at some Girl Scout international day thing, I tried vegemite. Actually, I'm not sure I tried it. I may have smelled it and refused to try it.
Which is what any sane person would do upon smelling it.
Anyways, I read the article about vegemite, and got the burning urge to try it again.
Luckily (FSVO lucky) the store down the street from my house carries a lot of strange foreign foods, including vegemite (and McVities Digestives. Try these. They are the most wonderful things I've ever tasted, especially the chocolate/caramel ones).
I got a little jar, and spread it veeeeerrrrryyyy thinly on some bread. It was alright. Certainly better than it smells, but not exactly ambrosia, either.
I don't think sourdough bread was the most appropriate, though. Plain white probably would have been better. That was my first instinct, but I like sourdough better for general usage, so I got that on the theory that it would be more useful if the experiment did not work out.
