Leif figured out how to open the door the locked front door the other day.

He had figured out how to open the unlocked door the night we moved in, and how to flip the deadbolt within a few days, but didn't put the two actions together in the correct order for about a week more.

We were prepared, though. We bought a chain lock, and had it installed within ten minutes of the first time he managed to figure out the whole thing. Now he just throws his toys through the crack in the door and gets upset when we won't open the door to get them because he'll run outside.

The back door has the same locking mechanism, but so far he just ignores it, probably because we don't normally go out that door.

With our kids, we had to put the chain lock at the top of the door. Debbie learned step-stools pretty easily.

This scared me for a minute, since we do plan to get a stepstool soon, but the lock is high enough that Leif would have to be about doorknob level in order to reach it, and I don't think we'll get a stepstool that will let him get that high, so we should be safe-ish for now :)

That's right, you two adults are way, way tall. I'm only 61.5 inches, so I just assume everyplace I'll live will require a stepstool. :)
