Leif got into the prickly pears today. He fell asleep shortly afterwards, but wakes up every so often, crying and holding his hands out. Poor kid. His whole hand is covered in little hair-like thorns. [livejournal.com profile] koyote is trying to tweeze out the pricklies when he's asleep.

They installed a new speaker thing at the pedestrian crossing near us. when it's quiet at night, we can hear it babbling on in a robotized voice. I hope it's actually helpful for the people who need it.

I tend to feel inadequate when other moms talk about what they're baking/knitting/sewing currently. Today I reminded myself that I'm just as capable of doing these things (well, except knitting, which I've never really tried) - I just don't particularly enjoy doing them on more than an occasional basis. I made a pumpkin into puree, roasted the seeds, and baked bread. Yay.

I like to imagine that there's enough pumpkin for all three pumpkin projects I want to try, but I think it's actually the equivalent of about two cans, maybe a bit more.

I got into knitting, because I was feeling like such a schmo for sitting on my butt watching TV so often. I can knit while I watch, so I feel like I'm accomplishing something. ;-) I've been making lots of washcloths lately, which are small enough I can take them with me to knit while watching DD's ballet class or attending the homeschool play day at the park. I wouldn't just sit and knit, but it's nice to multitask.

And, now it has been a couple of weeks since I've done any knitting, so I guess I'm back in the same boat as you. >:D

I love getting the really small fist-sized pumpkins and cooking them like Acorn squash.

He's (hopefully) young enough to not to remember this event when he's older, but one of my very notable very early childhood memories is running down the hill at Kitty Hawk... which is covered with tiny kiwi sized cacti with really long thorns. Long enough to go through kid's sneakers. Yeesh.

Good luck to him, poor kid.

I thought about that last night, actually. If I had more of a chance to watch what I want to watch, I could probably get into knitting. If we had a TV in the kitchen, I'd probably be more into cooking. But the Internet requires too many hands for effective multitasking.

Yikes about the pricklies. I've read about strips of masking tape being used to pull out the aggravating thorns, but never actually tried it. Mostly I just do what you're doing - pull them out one by one, and never quite get them all in one sitting.

(Now thatI've figured out how to dethorn the fruit at least 90%, next time I want to share "easy pickings" with [livejournal.com profile] koyote I'll bring them over cleaned. I feel sad that the little guy got hurt.)

Thoughts about doing home-like stuff - not everyone really wants to, even when they have time and ability. I'm glad to be off this week, maybe I'll want to bake and so on. Still have to make bread for stuffing, get more Ingredients, get some pumpkin. I'll get something large-ish in the pumpkin realm, if I have extra and you're short some just give me a holler. :)

we can always get another pumperkin.

You do a lot, though. cookies, bread, lunch for me to take to work. Sewing is just hard right now, with Leif at his current age.
