So when I was 7, I had this total crush on Wil Wheaton (AKA Wesley Crusher on ST:TNG). I got over it, after my parents made me stop watching ST:TNG because it gave me nightmares (this was after the episode where Data's evil twin held Wesley hostage or something. That scared me badly. Or maybe it was the episode where he broke some greenhouse on this paradise planet and they were going to kill him. Gee, he really got into life threatening situations a lot, didn't he. I think the episode where Tasha Yarr died also had something to do with it, too).

(Ok, so I just hit submit by accident, without ever getting to the point of the story. Oh well. That's what "Edit Last Entry" is for.)

This morning my former roommate emailed me (which was funny, since we just barely keep in touch), with the URL to Wil Wheaton's website.

I figured it was going to be some stupid publicity site, but no! It's a real website that he made himself! With a journal and everything!

(You can shoot me now for excessive use of exclamation points!)

I think I'm in love again... But someone else beat me too him. Oh well, C'est La Vi.

http://www.wilwheaton.net is the address, in case any of the rest of you are silly obsessive fans/online journal readers like me.

Synchronicity is a funny thing at times...

Due my little obsessive Wil Weaton fest this morning, I kind of forgot to do actual work. In fact, I almost forgot to go to class, but I snapped out of it in time.

So during class I finally remembered to check and see if the samba server was still running. We were working on lab exercises which I'd finished half an hour before, so I was able to check it. Dead, of course.

Not sure what to do now. I've tried everything I can think of that would actually fix the source of the problem.

Write a script to try to connect every minute, and restart the server if it fails?

And I feel icky. There are times when I'd really rather not be female. Now is one of them.

Gorey!

Today before class I was wandering around the local new/used bookstore, trying to find a copy of Parable of the Talents. It's the sequel to Parable of the Sower, which is on my top 10 books list. Not as good as the first, but I'd like to have them both.

No luck on that, but as I walked around the stacks, the illustrations on the cover of another book caught my eye. It was Amphigorey by Edward Gorey - a compilation of 15 of his books.

Edward Gorey totally rocks. He illustrated a series of books I read as a kid (The House with a Clock in its Walls being the first and most famous of them), as well as Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats. I discovered him again last year. My roommates had a book written/illustrated by him called The Gashleycrumb Tinies (read it online here). It's wonderfully morbid.

So I was quite pleased to find this. Best of all, it was essentially free - I had a $10 store credit, and with tax, the total was $10.17.

I think I'll buy my dad a copy for Christmas. It strikes me as something he might like.

I also picked up a copy of the new Ramona Quimby book, Ramona's World, for my mom for her birthday. It reminds me of when she used to read me those books as a kid, and I think she'll get a kick out of reading it. I am (yes, I'm an awful person who reads books before giving them to people!).

It seems different than the other books. Not surprising, since it's been 20 years or so since the last one was published, and Beverly Cleary must be getting pretty darn old. But worth reading, just for old times sake.
