We went to the doctor's for Leif's two month visit today. He was 23" long and weighed 12 lbs 8 oz. He's nearly doubled his birthweight!

He also got his shots, and is not a happy camper. Well, at this moment he's asleep, but when he's awake, he's either eating or crying. Poor guy.

On the way out, we saw a teensy newborn. It's shocking how much bigger and more alert he is now than he was just two months ago.

He's now smiling and holds his head up pretty well. His smiles are so gratifying. Up until recently he always looked so solemn that I worried (illogically, since I know babies don't generally smile that young) that he was depressed, or at least very serious. But the nurses even commented on what a happy baby he was. They think we're hippy nutcases, but agree that he's happy!

He also watches me eat very intently, and cries if I don't feed him at the same time. I'm guessing he'll be wanting big person food pretty early.

He's trying to figure out how to get his hands in his mouth, but mainly succeeds in whapping himself in the face. He hits pretty hard. I know because he whaps me in the face, too.

Something about him reminds me of my brother. I don't know what. He certainly doesn't look like my brother did as a baby.

Latest Leif update available here.

I just went through Leif's clothing and sorted out most of his 0-3 month clothing. He's technically grown out of some of it already (though he wore them this week, and they still fit ok), and there was a lot of it (5 million plain white onesies) that he just never wore.

I'm debating what to do with this stuff. We're planning to have more kids eventually, but I'm not sure how much is worth saving. I've offered some of it to a friend who is expecting twins soon, but I'm not going to give it to her unless she asks, as I suspect she'll end up inundated in newborn sized clothing as everyone is.

I'll probably end up keeping the cutest outfits, and donating the rest. If we really end up needing the 5 million white onesies that we didn't use this time around, they're not all that expensive.

The thing is, we just didn't end up needing all that much clothing. We do laundry a lot, so he has about 5 outfits he wears regularly.

What we need in 3-9 month sizes:

  • long sleeved kimono shirts
  • baby bags
  • pants
  • other assorted warm layers
  • a Halloween costume
  • a swim diaper, though not till we know how big he'll be when the class starts

We don't need any more footed sleepers or onesies, unless they're really cute onesies. We have a bunch of socks, but I'm not sure what size they are. I wonder how well he'd tolerate me trying them on him?

Please note that this is not a "buy me" list. It's me thinking aloud.

Baby clothing sizes are so weird. We have 6-9 month clothing that is larger than 12 month clothing. It may be that some is preshrunk and others aren't. I'm throwing everything that hasn't been washed yet in the laundry tomorrow to see how it comes out.

If I ever get around to it, I plan to re-learn how to sew and make some stuff. And hopefully this time I'll remember to sew the right sides together. I have a tendency to spend as much time ripping out stitches as I do sewing.

I signed us up for a yoga class, which starts next Friday. That should be interesting. I'm not quite sure what you do with babies during yoga.

Leif just woke up. [livejournal.com profile] koyote is holding him, and he seems reluctantly content. Well, he was anyways. Now he's rather fussily nursing and clawing at my chest with his sharp little nails. I really need to cut them next time he falls asleep.
