This morning I came back from the bathroom, looked at the bed, and wondered who had put a doll in the bed. It was Astrid - I'd just forgotten about her (and, in my defense, didn't have my glasses on). I do that. She'll fall asleep in her chair while I'm showering, and I'll leave her there so as not to disturb her, and then be totally surprised when I hear her making noise when she wakes up.

That's a side benefit of babywearing, I guess - there's no way you're going to forget and leave your kid somewhere.

In chemistry class last night, we were talking about converting between Farenheit and Celcius. The professor asked for a temperature, and the guy next me said "130 - that's how hot it was in Iraq".

It breaks my heart a little, just like it does every time I realize that this idiotic war has been going on for longer than Leif has been alive. Veterans are supposed to be the old dudes walking in the 4th of July parade, or at least someone [livejournal.com profile] koyote's age, not the college kid sitting next to me in class.

I feel out of place in the class. [livejournal.com profile] mactavish once told me that Sac City has an unusually diverse population age-wise, and now I believe it. I was always generally near the middle of the age range in any class I took - plenty of traditionally aged students, but always several considerably older, so it isn't just that I'm a few years older now myself. Anyways, there's one other person in the class who looks to be as old as me.

The fact that all my clothing is hopelessly unfashionable also seems much more noticable than it does around a group of moms. Go figure. I look forward to warmer weather - I have several pairs of shorts that I like that should fit. And maybe by next cold weather season I'll have lost baby weight and not be so resistant to spending money on new clothing.

Leif hasn't thrown up since the Astrid incident last night, but he's been running a high fever today. I don't like this. His poor little body is so hot :(. He's also congested, which makes me wonder what this is since [livejournal.com profile] koyote is feeling stuffy, too. I'm thinking more of a typical flu maybe, not rotavirus or the like, especially since, beyond the puking last night, he hasn't really had any gastrointestinal stuff going on.

We gave him a children's tylenol an hour ago, but I just found it lying in the bed, so I had to wake him up and force him to eat it (which is disturbing in itself, because he really likes the grape flavored ones). Hate to do that, but he's hot enough to really worry me.

Astrid has been sleeping a lot, but isn't feverish or acting particularly grumpy or throwing up. Not more than normal, anyways. I'm pretty much fine so far. A little off, but nothing that can't just be attributed to situational hypochondria.
