We've been having issues with getting Leif to pick up his toys and keep things clean. A few days ago I asked him if he wanted to get rid of some toys to make things easier, and he said yes, but was reluctant to name anything in particular. So today I sent him and [livejournal.com profile] koyote off to the library and did a purge.

Two garbage bags full of random large plastic toys, one of stuffed animals, a bean bag chair he never used, and a paper grocery bag of books went on Freecycle, along with some other stuff I had laying around. Much of it is claimed, and that which isn't will be donated somewhere next time I get the opportunity (there's a Goodwill donation drop across the street from us, so that works pretty easily). Plus two garbage bags full of random junk (broken toys, pictures, etc.). The assortment of flimsy cardboard boxes used for toy storage were replaced with plastic bins, on which I hope to get someone artistic to draw little pictures of what belongs in each for easy identification and cleanup.

He doesn't actually seem to notice that anything is gone, though I'm sure some item I didn't realize he was attached to will be noticed missing in the next few days. Or he'll notice something is missing and decide that it was his One True Toy, even though he rarely or never played with it.

He still has too much stuff. Somehow, getting rid of a garbage bag full of stuffed animals doesn't actually seem to have decreased the quantity in his stuffed animal basket, which is still overflowing. But it's a start, and much neater than it was.
