Leif was apparently just hungry - he ate 5(!) servings of spaghetti and is human again. It may be the same with Mariel. She's not frealking out anymore, either, though the timing wasn't quite as obvious.
Now the two of them are quietly playing together (this is rather amazing when you consider that Mariel is an autistic 10 year old). It's hard to believe they were both throwing screaming fits an hour and a half ago.
