It is so windy here I'm about to lose my mind, especially now that it's shifted and smells strongly of smoke from some fire or another.

Maybe the wind will blow all the flies away?

Early fall in Davis is not a particularly pleasant time.

Yeah, wind wasn't what woke me, it was the smell. I found a report of a grassfire from yesterday afternoon outside Davis, not sure what's burning now except fires out by Tahoe.

For the reader who isn't aware of California Geography (and I've had people tell me CA is the sike of PA or VA!)-

the Bassetts Fire up in the Sierra isn't really *close*. Like, a couple hours drive. Just not that close. But the winds are such that the air is being shot down into the valley and all the way over here, and it's nasty.

Or maybe there's another closer fire, though I can't find one. Because even for our weird atmospherics, there's a lot of eye stinging for a fire *that* far away- even with 30mph winds and 55mph gusts

When I first moved to Dixon and went to public school after years of boarding school (though we lived in Davis for awhile, I wasn't there most of the time we were because of school), I rode my bike to Davis one morning. The wind was in my face. "Dammit," I though, "at least it'll be at my back on the way home."

Gotta love that afternoon delta breeze. . . . I rode at just about walking pace both ways.
