The US has banned Vegemite, even to the point of searching Australians for jars of the spread when they enter the country.

This is due to the inclusion of the OMG EVIL folate (aka folic acid aka the vitamin they encourage you to get enough of if you're pregnant or planning to be so or not planning extremely thoroughly not to be so). In the US, you may only add folate to breads and cereals. Not to foul tasting yet oddly addictive yeast spreads.

I went to our local grocery-store-that-stocks-British-food a little bit ago, ostensibly to get ingredients for pumpkin milkshakes, but really to check the availability of vegemite (and the OMG HUGE SALE gdiaper starter packs. Anyone want to try them? I expect I can buy and ship them for cheaper than you can find them most anywhere).

Vegemite and Marmite were no longer on the shelves.

Some knockoff that starts with B (Bogon or Borate or something) was, however. And it included folate.

The local grocery-store-that-stocks-British-food is breakin' da law!

I've been intrigued by the idea of gdiapers-probably useful for travelling and such. I'm reluctant to buy any babythings until there is one much closer to arrival, after the last time...and since my uterus is unoccupied at the moment they'll have to wait.

Feh.

I understand :(

I love the idea, especially since the covers can be used with cloth diapers too, but the inserts are considerably more expensive than normal disposable diapers (which is rather counterintuitive, since they use less material and are less complex than normal disposables, but they ship from Australia (hmm, just like Vegemite) and apparently don't have a good backstock here yet). It's too bad - I have a feeling they'd really take off if they could get the cost down.

I need to get some before the sale ends though, even if they won't be useful for a while (they only have sizes medium and large), because it's cheap enough to be a good cost for a cloth diaper cover if nothing else.

I totally love the idea, and if I can get them, would probably do them when we travelled if it were reasonable. I can see, for a weekend, for example, but I'm not sure about two weeks worth when we go to Canada for example.

Hopefully it will cease to become irrelevant in a few months. :)

Thank you for the luck. I am sure we will begin relying on all the luck that is sent our way very soon.

And yes, conceivably I could just take the cloth along, especially since my sister in law does cloth up there. It's more a question of how much carrying around of soiled diapers seems reasonable, until I have access to washing facilities.

oh, I meant take the semi disposables for a day or two and cloth for the week, pretty much

That makes far more sense. And it's convenient , if the gdiaper covers work well for you with cloth underneath too, so you only have to pack one set of covers.

Still, it's all mood right now. Just hope for not too much longer.

I've been toying with the idea of picking up some gdiapers. They make useful covers for prefolds and might be useful while traveling for longer than a few days. Where's the sale?

I hope you're all well - you have a gorgeous family!

And Vegemite is teh nasty anyway ;)

North Davis Nugget. I don't know if they have them at the other Nuggets, or if that one is just trying to compete with the co-op.

I'm planning to grab a pack or two, though they only have sizes M/L and the inserts are too expensive to justify using them regularly. It's cheap enough ($13.00 for the starter pack with Nugget card, normally $25) to be a decent price for cloth diaper covers, even without the inserts.

Our Nugget has the smaller size if you'd like me to pick up some for you. The sale ends Tuesday.

That would be nice if you haven't already gone. One package, whatever color. Thank you :)

Got a box for you and one for me. A's on the edge between the sizes, so I'm hoping the big ones will fit. And I have a day to decide if I want to snap up the rest for ebaying... hmmm...

We've considered that too, but it seems more trouble than it's worth right now.

If shipping will be less than $12, let me know and I will take you up on that offer. I have been wanting to transition the twins to those for outings (currently we use 'sposies for outings) as we can put cloth in the wraps as well as the gdiapers. Zip is 98038, if that matters.

Shipping for one box via parcel post looks like it would be under $6, and probably under $10 for 2 or 3 boxes (I imagine you'd want more than two covers). Priority mail would still be under $12 for one box.

Yeah, that would be awesome, but I think 2 boxes (4 covers, right?) would be enough. If you want to pick them up I will paypal you the money. Let me know how much it is and I will get you the info. The M/L should fit perfectly. You probably can't get the pink/purple set, but if you can that would be awesome. Otherwise I don't care what color they are :) You rock!

Two boxes sounds sensible to me. Enough that you can use them, not so many that you'll have wasted money if they don't work out well.

Medium is 13-26lbs, and Large is 27-35lbs. I'm guessing you want large, unless they have really skinny thighs or something.

Got two boxes of the larges (one of each color combo - I think the pink/purple are only available online right now). Tell me soon if you think you need Medium instead, and I'll exchange them.

When you confirm that size large will work and send me your mailing address (to my LJ email address), I'll get them sent out :)

so the list is:

War on Drugs
War on Poverty
War on Terror

War on Yeast Extracts?

Remember back in the day when wars by definition were fough between nation-states? Bah.

was the other one Bovril? Beef extract. yikes.

gDiapers- Google Daipers? Algorithmic excretion control?

Yep, that's it. Except it is yeast, not beef. I'm glad Wikipedia clarified that or I'd have worried about being nuts.

Now I'm debating whether "Mad Cow Disease" or "Bovine Spongiform Encephalitis" is the funnier phrase. I'm leaning towards the latter.

gDiapers are a cloth cover/liner and a disposable/flushable inner piece. I think the "g" is for green. I bet google could get the cost down if they bought them out, though.

Folate, that stuff that makes sure that fetuses develop brains and spinal cords? How evil! Ban it!
