We decided to try taking an overnight bus for the longest leg of the trip (Santa Barbara to Oakland - we're somewhere in the south bay now) to see if it would help keep Leif from getting quite so frantic. So far, it's worked as we hoped, and he's slept the whole time. But I'm not sure I've got enough sleep to be worth it :)
