On Sunday I dropped my computer and seem to have killed the hard drive. All things considered, it's about as good a time as any to have done that, as I should have relatively recent backups (and most recent pictures uploaded to flickr), and we'd planned to get a new one within the next few weeks anyways.

However, this means that Leif's 'ter (as he calls it) is the only functioning 'ter (I can't think of them as "computers" anymore. Just "'ters"), so I'm not getting a whole lot of online time. I'm keeping up ok with LJ, but rarely commenting (or even reading comments) or following links, and only following cuts if it looks like there is some sort of substance (as opposed to memes or pictures) behind the cut. So label things appropriately if you want me to see them, not that I really expect anyone to change their posting habits on account of me :)

We're debating what to get. I like having a laptop, but it encourages irresponsible computer usage, while not really being portable enough to take to school should I need to. On the other hand, being able to use a computer in both the bedroom and kitchen/living room is very useful, as there are times when I really need/want to be in one or the other location. And the possibility of taking it places is useful, too.

I think my main irritation right now is that I want to watch Heroes and Jericho online and the Serenity DVD I finally have (yes, I've been spoiled), and have to wait till Leif is asleep (and I'm not too tired myself) to watch them.

I did better on this chemistry test than the last one. Yay. Not wonderful, but probably passing. Unlike last time (class average was 54%). The lowest test grade gets dropped, so that one test shouldn't hurt me in the end.

I feel bad not doing better. I'm pretty sure I'll pass, but with a pretty minimal amount of greater effort, I'd probably be doing much better. And "better" helps if I end up trying to get into a program where grades count (the normal community college programs don't go by GPA as long as your grades in prerequisite classes are high enough).

Class was short tonight (no lab), so I could ride both ways safely - about 17 miles total. There was a good tailwind on the way there, so the ride back was a bit slow, but I made it before dark, so it's all good.

I've seen My Neighbor Totoro 8 million times now, and I still love it.

Ack! I have constant fears of Van killing my "puter" especially since he likes to play games on it now. He needs his own soon.

I can't imagine ever using a desktop computer again. I take it in the yard, livingroom, bedroom, kitchen, attic... Picking one place to put it? Hard...

Don't you have a 12 inch Powerbook? And it's too big? :o

[livejournal.com profile] lizbyrd loves Miazaki too. I think she's seen it a similar number of times, and has the two my-neighbour-totoro shirts from Thinkgeek.

For carrying while walking/biking moderate distances along with books and such? Yes :) If I had to I could, but I'd try to avoid it.

Yeah. For most casual use my phone works fine, but tabbed browsing is sometimes a big deal when I'm cooking.

If we could set my current laptop (with different HD) up semi-permanently in the kitchen, I think I'd be ok with having a desktop in the bedroom.

I suppose... you have tried to plug the hard drive back up..You know there is this little plug that has a habit of popping out when done like that? It might take oh...10 minutes for someone to change it out

Well, it's not completely dead, just getting errors, so I don't think that's the problem unless it could be caused by being a little loose.
