Interesting discovery of the day - Tincture of Iodine is currently unavailable, or nearly so, in Davis. The drugstores (both locations of both Longs and Rite Aid) are all sold out. Safeway had about 5 1-oz bottles that had gotten shoved behind some other boxes. I don't know whether other supermarkets were checked.

A combination of standard emergency preparedness, skin test of questionable veracity for iodine deficiency, and supplementation.

(Basically, paint a spot of it on your skin, and the faster it disappears, the more deficient you are. This also serves as need-controlled supplementation. The primary criticism I've found seems to indicate that there is a correlation between iodine deficiency (or lack thereof) and rate of absorption, but that the rate isn't standard and therefor not clinically useful.)

interesting. Have you been using uniodized salt or is this just a general concern of yours?
