For So the Children Come
Poem by Sophia Lyon Fahs

For so the children come
And so they have been coming.
Always in the same way they come
born of the seed of man and woman.

No angels herald their beginnings.
No prophets predict their future courses.
No wisemen see a star to show where to find the babe
that will save humankind.

Yet each night a child is born is a holy night,
Fathers and mothers--
sitting beside their children's cribs
feel glory in the sight of a new life beginning.

They ask, "Where and how will this new life end?
Or will it ever end?"

Each night a child is born is a holy night--
A time for singing,
A time for wondering,
A time for worshipping.

This was read at our Christmas Eve service. [livejournal.com profile] koyote pointed it out to me in the hymn book a few months ago, and it gave me the shivers. I'm glad they chose it for tonight.

I'm also glad we went to the service. [livejournal.com profile] koyote's resistance has won out over the past several years, but it really feels more Christmasey to me now.

Leif got his big present today - a loft bed, which he is now attempting to sleep in, but both kids have a bad case of sugar high excitement.

Astrid's homemade present. I fell in love with star-shaped Waldorf dolls at Whole Earth Festival last year, and have wanted to make her one since. I'm pretty happy with this one, despite the case of microcephaly.

Yulemas - 1
Astrid's favorite present from the Yule baskets - toy Blackberries in fashionable colors!

The way I view my friends list, kelseid's post is right above yours.

I miss you guys.

The bed looks fantastic!

Windy, gusts up to 50mph here. Bone dry of course. :)

Mariel has been eating mostly apples and bananas, and turning up her nose even at eggs. Today we'll see what crazy foodness will happen.

See you Thursday! Happy Christmas!

It's quite windy and dry here too, though there is a chance of rain tonight.

Now Mariel has The Cough and is running a bit of a fever. Asked to go to bed with her loot (five Inuyasha books of her very own) at 8:30pm, happy to just lie there and read.

Things mostly went well today. No ER or clinic visits required. The Jennie-O Insta-Turkey wasn't bad. It wasn't great either. As a matter of fact, the only thing made from fresh foods would be the fruit tray, and the veggie/hummus tray, I brought both. I made the hummus too. Mariel therefore had lots of healthy stuff to fill up on before the meal.

Turkey: Jennie-O Freezer-To-Oven Bagged Seasoned Turkey
Mashed Potaties: Frozen "Boston Market."
Stuffing: Frozen "Boston Market."
Gravy: Combination of drippings from the turkey, "Boston Market" frozen gravy, with three packets of instant gravy mix, brand unknown.
Vegetables: 1 bag frozen peas; 1 bag frozen corn; 1 box frozen cooked spinach; 1 box frozen brussel sprouts
Dessert: 1 pumpkin pie, Sue made it; 1 pecan pie Diane mail-ordered from Savannah, GA; 1 french apple crumb pie from Safeway; Cool Whip.

All but the turkey and the pies were heated in the microwave.

I'm just catching up on LJ after being back in Britain for Christmas. Happy New Year, and a belated Merry Christmas! Your pics are adorable. LOL at L decorating, we have the same philosophy it appears: children are more important than furniture :) It didn't translate too well when we were staying at my Mum's and Basil drew on the hardwood floor and couch cushion 0_o
