Dec. 25th, 2007 06:02 pmLeif's watching The Wizard of Oz for the first time. When Dorothy stepped out the door into Oz, he said "She's not on the farm anymore!"
Now he just asked if the munchkins are chipmunks (He recently saw the new chipmunk movie, and a reasonable supposition from the voices and height).

Leif is at the magic Christmas age, where he's been immersed enough in popular culture to really understand and anticipate the events, but still young enough to believe in Santa, which we didn't set out to teach him about, but... well, see the part about immersion in popular culture.
He woke up in his new bed this morning, looked around, and said "It's Christmas morning!" I sent him out to the living room to see if Santa came - he was very excited to see that he had, but quite disappointed to discover that it had not snowed during the night.
He asked for three things for Christmas - a car, a train, and a band. He got two of them. The band, or as close as I can get it (his electric piano, which he hasn't seen in two years or so) will appear at some point after I can get a color-coded beginner piano book.
He seems pretty thrilled with everything. Astrid was most thrilled with her gingerbread man, really. And Leif's RC car. He's currently using it to drag her around the room, which is...interesting. But they're both playing and laughing together and I don't think it's particularly dangerous...
He covets her toy farm, she covets his RC car. It's all good in siblingland.
He also wants me to make him a doll. Tonight. Ain't happening. If I started now, I could probably be done by midnight, but I'm tired. I want to make Beeb a different one - smaller, made out of a fuzzy material (cotton velour is "traditional", I may take a look at the thrift shops for something appropriate), possibly a weightier filling, and a little less roundedness in the arms and legs. And a more proportional head and nicer face. I think I'm going to make Leif's out of denim.

We had lemon pancakes with ginger-molasses syrup for dinner. That could become a tradition. I won't tell you what else we ate today. It's too weird.
