I'm reading a book right now. I don't know whether I'll make it through.

I want to like it. It's about a subject I find really interesting. However, I'm feeling something between apathy and downright antipathy towards all the characters so far. They're dreary and miserable and boring.

I rarely ever find the characters so uninteresting and unlikable that I don't feel I can continue with the book. This may even be a first. Even when I don't particularly like a character, there's usually at least one character in the book who is interesting and relate-able enough to be worthwhile.

I'm holding out hope that the beginning is supposed to be a contrast, and something will happen later in the book to liven things up a little. But I'm not sure how much tolerance it's getting.

Which book? I felt this way about "One Second After". I was so intrigued by the story, but the characters were ridiculous.

The Condition, by Jennifer Haigh.

Did you watch Jericho ever? Similar premise to One Second After.
