lemurbaby.
SCC put up the schedule for summer semester. I had the insane thought that I could take a class during the first six week session - it would end before my due date. But that would be, well, insane. Especially if I don't end up taking maternity leave until the very end, which is likely if there isn't a medical reason to take it earlier. Luckily, there is nothing being offered during the first six weeks that looks remotely interesting. Mostly "How To Use Excel" and things like that.
They're going to start offering yoga. 3 blocks away from my apartment. At a time I could theoretically take it if I wasn't going to have a watermelon-sized mass stuck in my belly. Why couldn't they have done this a year ago?
I'm trying to find distance learning classes for next year that are not too internet dependant (in case we don't have reliable access after moving), not too expensive, and are accredited. Or unaccredited but life-applicable. I'm not having much luck so far, though I know they exist. If I'm going to be staying at home, I'm going to need something to do besides stare at baby the whole time. Plus, there are still a bunch of lower level/general ed. type requirements that I should finish before transfering to a university, and it would be nice to finish my degree before 2010.
I'm kind of tempted to not get internet access at all for at least a little while after we move, to force myself to find more productive things to do with my life. Not that I can't do that with internet access, but it's a major distraction.
koyote wants to have some sort of access though, and honestly, I do too. It's much easier to keep in touch with people that way. It just has the potential to be too absorbing, especially if I've just moved to the middle of nowhere.
This is kind of funny because we've done a complete 180 degree flip from our positions on internet access a few weeks ago, though that was partially a misunderstanding (he thought I was set on having broadband. I could honestly care less about speed as long as there is access of some type. I've used slow dialup often enough in the past).
I'm working on gift registries for
lemurbaby. It's entertaining. I stayed up all Friday night doing that and listening to the rain pour down outside. Then today I found a registry consolidation site that includes the three best natural baby type stores I found in my Friday searches. This is neat. I found one store that had pretty much everything we wanted, but a few things were missing, and some weren't exactly the type I wanted. Now I can be terribly greedy and ask for it all!
Creating gift registries makes me feel weird. I've pretty much been brought up not to ask for specific things, and to be happy with what I get. But at the same time we really don't want to end up with a bunch of stuff that isn't useful, given that we're likely to end up being oddball hippy parents and we're moving shortly after the baby is born. I know people would generally rather give gifts that we'll actually use. And it isn't like we're demanding certain things - just giving them an easy way to get what we need if they choose to do it that way.
Still, I probably wouldn't create an actual registry if we hadn't been told by someone at work that I am required to create one. Just a general "this is what we need/want" list.
Speaking of that, I really must remember to email my grandma and tell her we already have a sewing machine (she offered me one for my birthday).
It's late. I should be asleep, but as usual, I slept too much today, so I'm attempting to get a bit more tired first - getting to sleep late and sleeping straight through tends to work better for me than getting to sleep earlier and waking up at about 2 AM.
Perhaps I will go contemplate my ever-shrinking navel for a while.
