I made a pouch-style baby carrier tonight. Really quite easy, should have done it ages ago. I've been wanting one of these because they're simple and fold up small, making them easy to bring along as a backup on trips where I'm otherwise not using a carrier.

Now we'll just see if Leif will deign to let me use it. He's been very resistant lately to any means of transport that is not his own feet or my arms and left hip. I have a feeling that it is too long, which isn't a huge problem (I can fold over the shoulder a bit), but he has yet to allow me to put him in it, and bags of rice just aren't the same thing.

ETA: I got him in, now he refuses to get out, and it doesn't seem to be too long to be comfortable long term. Oops :)

Hi, I saw your post in the baby sign friends list. I made a pouch for my daughter, and it also came out a little too long. But I wrapped the extra fabric up with a piece of left over fleece I had, and it cinched up to where she could be comfortable. Also, I can let it out so my husband can wear her too. But the best thing I found that works better than anything is about 5 yards of fabric by 30 inches. I went to mamatoto.org and learned how to use it to make a baby wrap. I can carry her on either hip, in the front, or on my back and it's so easy. It's like a hug-a-bub or an over the shoulder baby holder, and it's inexpensive too. Just thought I'd shard.
