Aug. 21st, 2004 10:20 pmMy legs are killing me.
One of the side effects of boat living is that I've started wearing shorts on an everyday basis. Jeans take too long to dry, both when they accidently get wet and when we try to dry them in the godawful dryers. So I've been going around in shorts for the past 3 weeks or so, and am starting to have legs that are something other than blindingly white, which should come as a shock to anyone who has known me for a long period off time.
Anyways, I've been doing a lot of walking around during this time, and today is the first time I've gotten a sunburn. I don't get it.
Someone dip me in a vat of aloe vera, please.
I met Wil Wheaton today, along with about 40 other people. Yay.
(Yes, this is the guy I've had a crush on in some form or another since I was 7 years old, and all I have to say is "Yay". My verbal abilities have certainly gone downhill.)
Leif,
koyote, and I ended up in the middle of a picture in someone else's blog (last picture, Leif is the tie-dyed blob).
I had a seat in the front row during the reading (and the wait - he was over an hour late due to traffic). Unfortunately, it was on the far side of the bookstore from where
koyote had Leif, and he came running across, babbling his head off, in the middle of the reading. I was afraid I was going to have to go pull my boob out in front of Wil, which, while being an interesting story, wasn't really what I wanted to do. Luckily, Leif didn't want a nurse. He just wanted to pull everything off the podium and hand them to random audience members.
The group sitting next to me was talking (while waiting ahead of time, not after Wil arrived), and kept talking about LJ and friends lists. I wondered if I knew any of them. I didn't, but one,
nolly, turned out to have a number of friends in common with
koyote and I. Small world.
I didn't manage to find my old journal. Such is life.
I've been to book signings by three authors now. The first was when I was 10 or something. Ann M. Martin. It completely sucked. There was a huge line, and I don't think she said more than a few words to anyone. I accidently sold the book at a garage sale several years later.
Thankfully, the other two (Orson Scott Card twice and Will Wheaton) have both been great. Both are good speakers, and very worth going to see if they're in your area.
Speaking of books, we found Leif The First Book of Sushi. Best board book ever.
