Jul. 11th, 2007 07:40 pmDear Craigslist buyers,
I understand you think you are doing me a huge favor by buying from me and can therefore do whatever you want. This is not true. We are providing eachother with a mutual service. If you don't like this, or I just don't feel like selling to you, I normally have a number of other people who want to buy the item.
1. If you insist I call you or don't email from a valid address, I'll skip over you. If you wish to provide a phone number, that is good, and probably smart as I'm sure there are buyers who prefer working via phone, but I really don't.
2. If you don't write something at least vaguely resembling English, I may skip over you.
3. If you ask for a discount in the first email, I will skip over you. If you ask for a discount in any other email, I will probably say no if there are other potential buyers. Your best chance at getting a discount is to show up and ask in person. If what you're asking is reasonable, I'll likely give it to you just to avoid having to deal with the hassle of arranging a meeting with someone else.
4. If you send multiple emails within a short period of time because I don't respond fast enough, I'll probably skip over you. I respond to emails in the order they are received (unless someone breaks the rules), and I need time for a bit of back and forth before knowing how to respond to subsequent emails. And I sometimes, you know, sleep and stuff and can't answer email immediately.
5. Be prepared to respond to emails promptly (within a few hours, though I'll take nighttime into account) and come over to check the item out within 24 hours or so. I'm not going to hold it for days when I have a dozen other people interested, especially since there's a chance you'll end up flaking or not wanting it.
6. Don't arrange a time to come over and then flake. You probably won't get a second chance. The earlier you contact me about a change in plans, the more likely it is that I'll be lenient on this. But if you just don't show up, I'll probably be pissed off that you made me rearrange my day to sit around waiting for you.
(Current person is violating rule 6. Grr.)
