This morning we decided it was a good day to take the train. When we mentioned this to Leif, he immediately jumped up, said "bye" to his toys (he recently discovered the joys of building with normal sized legos), and headed for the door. Unfortunately, he was completely naked, and we weren't really ready to go yet, either.
After we finished getting ready, we stuck Leif's backpack on his back, his engineer's hat on his head and headed out for the train station. We took the train (which was about 40 minutes late, due to a strike at the previous station, but this was good for us, as we were running late ourselves) to Sacramento, which is about a 15 minute ride from Davis. Not nearly long enough - Leif cried when we reached the station and had to get off.
From the station, it was a short walk to Old Town Sacramento and the California State Railroad Museum. It was full of trains, but Leif got himself stuck at the toy train tables, which were three times as big as any he's played with before, and didn't want to check out the rest.
Then we had lunch and took the train back home. He was exhausted, but refused to sleep until 7:30, when he passed out for the night.
It was a very fun day for all of us. We'll have to try that again, which shouldn't be a problem, as we bought him a membership which lets him and an adult get in for free.
