Oct. 26th, 2006 12:04 pmThis morning I checked the weather, and commented that it was cold out (39F). Leif immediately jumped up and asked if he could wear his new shirt.
koyote bought him a long sleeved shirt, and I'd told him he could wear it when it was colder.
He has too good a memory.
I hate this shirt. It says "Chick Magnet" on it.
koyote thinks it's hilarious because everyone always thinks Leif is a girl, so it's messing with society's gender/sexuality expectations and so forth. And anyonewho doesn't think it's funny doesn't have a good sense of humor.
On one hand, yes, I can see that. On the other, it's just wrong, and I'm embarrased to take him out in public dressed like that.
Unfortunately, he adores the shirt. Unfortunately, it's a little too warm to make him stick a sweatshirt over the top.
Thankfully, it looks like he'll grow out of it soon.

he only one I actually liked was "These people are my relatives?"
I saw the "chick magnet" one and really didn't like it.. I don't know, I guess babies can be 'chick magnets'. People will probably think it is cute though. I think most people see it as cutesy, not as reinforcing gender roles per se. We love Leif's hair.. I wouldn't think he was a girl. I was wondering that the other day actually, just because of the long hair, if I saw him and didn't know would I know if he was a boy?, I think I would. I told Ted we'll have to let our little boys have long hair because it is so ca-ute. ;) LOL.. of course I feel weird about having my girls have long hair? Go figure.
Someone on my friend's list actually got her baby one on those onesies, or her husband did not sure, but she likes it, one that says "All Daddy wanted was a blow-job." I've also see women's ones like "I only wanted a back-rub", which is cuter, not as icky.
Oh my lord, I would be mortified by that one. Maybe around a select group of friends it would be funny.
