The good news - I got a 70% on the test I was stressing about, and, barring some crazy disaster (like getting less than 10% on the final), I'm passing Chemistry. I can get a B in the class by getting in the 75% range or higher on the final, and an A by getting an A on the final (she decided that if our grade on the final is higher than our average in the class (or something like that), we get the grade in the final as our grade in the class). So that's a lot of stress off for the next few weeks.

The bad news - I don't think I'm ever going to get into Anatomy&Physiology the official way. It's a high demand class, and it fills up quickly, and I'm low priority registration, so I just don't have a chance. So I guess I'm going to have to email and/or show up on the first day of class and beg the professors to take mercy on me and let me in. Which I've done successfully in the past, so I'm not despondent yet.

I have to take A&P I this summer and II in the fall if I want to apply for the Sac City nursing programs for Fall 2008, as they don't allow in-progress prerequisites at the time of application. Some of the other schools are more lenient on that issue, so I could still possibly get in somewhere else Fall 2008 if I did have to wait another semester to take it.

My remaining prerequisites are A&P I&II, Microbiology, Human Development, and Public Speaking. Public Speaking doesn't have to be completed before applying, though. These are my top priority classes to get through, obviously. I'm currently registered for Human Development and Public Speaking for summer (if I don't get into A&P) and Human Development and Microbiology for fall. If I get into the A&P, I'll have to decide what, if anything, I can take along with it.

I don't know if I get financial aid for the summer. This irritates me. I don't think I do, though.

If I can't get into A&P this summer, I think I will just take HD (If that. Might be better just to take the summer off entirely and not spend that time/money), and try to get some good time in on the doula program too, as that will help my chances with some of the programs.

My second priority courses are the nursing school prerequisites that I took at UC Davis - Nutrition and Psychology. I expect I could improve on the grades I got back then, and I expect I'll need a few more units here and there to have enough units to be considered full time. Also, they're likely to not be recent enough for some schools (or won't be within a few years, if it takes me a while to get in).

I'm currently registered for nutrition fall semester. Online class. Whoo! And psychology, which is here in Davis with the same teacher [livejournal.com profile] koyote had when he took it.

Other classes necessary for CSU admission also fall in this category. Like Organic Chemistry, which I think I'd really rather not take, but I suppose I have to at some point. I should stop being scared of Chemistry now that I've effectively passed the class, right?

My third priority is to retake the other necessary-for-transferring classes I took at UCD (history, statistics), so that I can just pretend I never went there. My transcript from Sac City looks much prettier, and it's easier and cheaper not to have to order transcripts from multiple locations every time I apply somewhere else.

I hate trying to figure out class schedules. It gives me a headache.

May I offer you an asprin? Or Tylenol, Aleve? So, when have you scheduled your break? Hang in there. I liked organic chemistry, mush more so than inorganic. It makes waaaaaaay more sense.

Break? Sometime after I graduate :) Not really. I won't do anything Summer 2008 unless I really want to, and I'll only be doing second and third priority classes if it seems there is a benefit to staying in school instead of going and getting a job or staying home with the kids until I can get into a nursing program.

It's so competitive these days that they pretty much have to do it this way - they can't have people getting in and then not being able to handle these courses. 560+ applicants for 35 spots at my current school for next fall semester. Isn't that nuts?

It really makes me question why I'm doing this.

explain why it makes you question it. sorry if that seems like a dumb question, but i'm not sure.

Because I'm afraid I'll spend all the time and effort getting the prerequisites done and then not actually be able to get into a nursing school.

somehow hearing the answer makes my question feel even sillier. but that didn't even occur to me for some reason... i guess i am assuming you are going to rock these prereqs and sail through the admissions process? you can do it! go go go!

Well, for the community colleges, it doesn't matter what I get as long as it meets the minimum standards (C for some subjects, B for others) - they have a random selection process. I think that would work in my favor, since I'm not the best student to begin with and now have two kids to deal with.

But for the programs where grades matter, I have volunteer experience and other things to get me extra points. So hopefully it will all work out.
