Geeky Work Stuff
Jul. 27th, 2001 12:28 pmWell, I feel stupid...
I spent quite a lot of energy yesterday trying to troubleshoot connections to our server and explaining to my boss that yes, this problem had happened before, and wasn't related to the recent server switch.
Got into work this morning, tried to connect, and discovered that there was indeed a real problem (beyond the usual windows networking stupidity). Samba was refusing connections for some unknown reason, even though the server was running.
I restarted Samba. It fixed the problem. I emailed all our poor irate customers and told them they can connect now.
But I don't know why this happened. There's nothing in the log files to indicate what went wrong. I can't remember making any changes which could have caused the problem. Next stop is the samba page, to see if this is a reported issue.
I think it's also time to put together a changelog for this thing.
On the good side, this gave me the motivation to go ahead and put together my new computer, since I feared I'd need to burn a CD. Now that it's all set up, it shouldn't be too much trouble to stick linux on it and transfer over the data from my old computer.
