At Picnic Day last week, we got some bags of ladybugs, which have been sleeping in the fridge since.

I got the bags out, and Leif asks if I found the others. The others?

It seems he brought some ladybugs in from outside to put them to sleep in the fridge so we could eat them.

[livejournal.com profile] silkensteel commented, "So that's why I've been finding ladybugs all over the kitchen."

We took them outside and let them go, after explaining that ladybugs don't really taste very good. Then we watched youtube videos about ants farming aphids, then relocated some of the ladybugs to the aphid infested tree and watched them happily munch away.

Ladybugs are *great* aphid control. A whole section of the yard last year was infected with the things... we released a container of ladybugs in the garden, and the aphids were completely gone (shells and all) within around 2 or 3 days. The yellow jackets had a ball with the aphid carcasses as well. :-)
