I don't know how much I've said publically about my struggles with deodorant (not to be melodramatic or anything...)

Two years ago, I ran out of deodorant, and decided to try Tom's of Maine - specifically, long-lasting Lavendar scent. It made me break out in a horrid rash. A while later I stumbled across a post on [livejournal.com profile] naturalliving which proved this to be a not uncommon happening.

After that, I tried another type (Kiss My Face, I think), which did the same thing.

The third type didn't make me break out in a rash, but I wasn't terribly happy with how it worked. However, being a little afraid to try anything else, I continued to use it for a year and a half.

After I got tired enough of it not working, I tried Kiss My Face again because of cost and stupidity. I thought maybe my skin had been oversensitive from the Tom's of Maine stuff the previous time I tried it, and it might be better this time. It wasn't, so I returned it.

I got another brand, which seems to work ok. Unfortunately, once I got home and tried it, I realized that "Summer Spice" scent is an Old Spice knockoff (it hadn't been quite as obvious from sniffing the container directly), so it made me smell like a man.

Now I have a spray bottle of Burt's Bees Herbal Deodorant. I rode 20 miles to/from school in 100 degree heat and don't stink. Or smell manly. And now I'm wearing a tank top, which usually invites the stinkiness, and I still don't stink (I did re-apply it after arriving home, but don't know if that was actually necessary).

I think it wins.

I have icky rashes with a lot of deodorants, but I'm afraid I can't help with a suggestion, because I found my dream deodorant with Tom's of Maine. :/

That said, it looks like you've found yours, too. :) Is it antiperspirant at all?

Nope, just deodorant. I've never found antipersperant to be effective enough to be worth the shirt stains or potential health risk.

I don't think it's Tom's of Maine in general - I've used it before without a problem. Possibly just the long-lasting version, or maybe even just the lavendar, but I don't feel like testing it.

I had to go through many a deodorant before I found something that worked, too. Sometimes they'll work for a few weeks and then quit. But the Jason apricot stuff has been pretty good for me for a while. Sometimes I can use a crystal, but hormonal fluctuations tend to kill it.

Yeah, I haven't tried that one because it's several dollars more expensive. I may try it if this stops working, though.

I've been using Secret, quite honestly, because it was the only one that seemed to work for my body, and didn't have perfume. (And was on a tight budget). Lately, however, it seems that the stores stock only unscented Secret with antipersperants---an addition with which I'm not physcially comfortable.

Thanks

I didn't know they made deodorant-only Secret. I was looking at the mainstream brands last time I was at the store because they really are so much less expensive, and I'd probably go with that myself. It's honestly not the "natural" I'm aiming for as much as non-aluminum and non-staining. And non-horrid-blistering-rash-causing.

I know they USED to make some with just deodrant. But apparently not anymore.

i've had the same reaction to any tom's of maine that i've tried. still love the toothpaste though. i've been using Crystal Stick for about three years now, and haven't had to buy more than three or four of them. Just make sure you dry them well after use, because if they get wet they shatter into sharp slicey bits that destroy your will to use it.

Gee, you'd think we were related or something.

When I tried the crystal, it worked well for a while and then didn't. I may not have been caring for it properly - another friend suggested only using it straight out of the shower, and using something else if I felt the need to reapply later in the day.

that's exactly what i do- straight out of the shower, and if i need to reapply later in the day....I DONT and screw them if they have a problem with my perfectly natural odor of MAN.
