Today I was working on the computer aided instruction modules for school.

The program explained different problem solving methods. This particular part is discussing using formulas or procedures for problem solving.

For the practice, there is a list of activities, and we're supposed to choose whether a formula, procedure, or neither is the appropriate problem solving method.

Converting Celsius to Fahrenheit - formula.
Baking a cake - procedure
Packing clothing for a trip - neither

The last is totally a procedure. This computer program obviously does not live in my brain. Or have kids.

Packing is both. You use the formula to decide what clothes you need and the procedure to pack it without wrinkles.

I don't have kids, but packing is absolutely a procedure. Although I also have a formula for it... so maybe it's both. A formulaic procedure?
