I don't usually do New Years resolutions (since they usually don't go anywhere and just make me feel guilty), but I was thinking about it tonight, and these seem reasonable. Sticking them up in public will hopefully give me incentive to actually carry through with them.

1. Get in better physical shape, and don't increase my clothing size. If I lose weight, do so in a healthy manner.

2. Improve my writing skills, and stop avoiding things that require deep thought.

3. Either stop fretting about money, or start budgeting and paying better attention to what I'm spending so that I can do something about it.

1. This is your basic "lose weight" resolution, except I don't want to just say "lose weight". I'd actually be perfectly agreeable to getting in better shape and staying the same weight, except realistically that isn't going to happen. If I get in better shape, chances are I'll lose weight. I'm signed up for an aerobics class this next semester - hopefully that will help until the weather is good enough to start walking/riding downtown again.

2. I've always had a problem with pretentious intellectualism (though I'm sure some people would say that I'm a pretentious intellectual myself). Over the past few years, I've been using this as an excuse to avoid thinking too deeply about anything. I should really stop that. I should also work on improving my writing. These two topics look a lot less connected when I write them that way.

3. Money is causing major issues with me right now, and I'm spending too much mental/emotional energy on the one aspect I really can't control. So, I either need to redirect this energy at the things I can control, or stop worrying about it entirely , or it's just going to stress me out and screw up a relationship. Budgeting and record keeping would obviously be the smarter answer (and more helpful if I do end up *needing* to do that at some point in the future) but I have enough in savings that ignoring it for the time being isn't out of the question.

There's a lot of other self-improvement things I should do, but I think these are a good start. It's not like I have to wait till next new year to start on something else if I decide I need it.
