Latest Leif update available here.

I just went through Leif's clothing and sorted out most of his 0-3 month clothing. He's technically grown out of some of it already (though he wore them this week, and they still fit ok), and there was a lot of it (5 million plain white onesies) that he just never wore.

I'm debating what to do with this stuff. We're planning to have more kids eventually, but I'm not sure how much is worth saving. I've offered some of it to a friend who is expecting twins soon, but I'm not going to give it to her unless she asks, as I suspect she'll end up inundated in newborn sized clothing as everyone is.

I'll probably end up keeping the cutest outfits, and donating the rest. If we really end up needing the 5 million white onesies that we didn't use this time around, they're not all that expensive.

The thing is, we just didn't end up needing all that much clothing. We do laundry a lot, so he has about 5 outfits he wears regularly.

What we need in 3-9 month sizes:

  • long sleeved kimono shirts
  • baby bags
  • pants
  • other assorted warm layers
  • a Halloween costume
  • a swim diaper, though not till we know how big he'll be when the class starts

We don't need any more footed sleepers or onesies, unless they're really cute onesies. We have a bunch of socks, but I'm not sure what size they are. I wonder how well he'd tolerate me trying them on him?

Please note that this is not a "buy me" list. It's me thinking aloud.

Baby clothing sizes are so weird. We have 6-9 month clothing that is larger than 12 month clothing. It may be that some is preshrunk and others aren't. I'm throwing everything that hasn't been washed yet in the laundry tomorrow to see how it comes out.

If I ever get around to it, I plan to re-learn how to sew and make some stuff. And hopefully this time I'll remember to sew the right sides together. I have a tendency to spend as much time ripping out stitches as I do sewing.

I signed us up for a yoga class, which starts next Friday. That should be interesting. I'm not quite sure what you do with babies during yoga.

Leif just woke up. [livejournal.com profile] koyote is holding him, and he seems reluctantly content. Well, he was anyways. Now he's rather fussily nursing and clawing at my chest with his sharp little nails. I really need to cut them next time he falls asleep.

Today, a new Ikea opened in College Park, MD. They had festivities at the two other Ikeas in the area, as well.

One of these festivities was a free $200 comfy chair for the first 100 people in the door at each location.

So, being in need of nice comfy chairs, we left the comfort of our comfy bed at 1:00AM and headed to Ikea to wait in line with 100 other insane individuals.

Luckily, it had stopped raining heavily by that point, and didn't start up again while we were there. It was still a less than comfortable experience, since we didn't have any sort of chair, and the blanket got all soaked through. And because EVERYONE SMOKES IN VIRGINIA. GRRR.

Side rant: You're in line somewhere. You're standing next to two women who are discussing their pregnancies. 4:20 rolls around. Do you A. light up your joint and breathe smoke in their faces, or B. be polite and go elsewhere, or not light up at all? I'm sure you can guess what the people next to us did.

So anyways, we sat around in line for 8 hours. It wasn't that bad, really. For some reason, 8 hours passes a lot faster when you're sitting around in the cold on hard concrete without a whole lot to do than it does at work. Go figure.

We ended up being number 92 and 93, so we got out free chairs, which we will soon go home and assemble. Some of you will come sit in them soon. Yay!

Still no phone line at home, and there may not be before next week. Grr. I hate being punished for not having a credit card. Verizon emailed me on Tuesday to say that they needed further information from me in order to process my application. Because I don't have a phone line, I could not access email until late today, which means that they won't get the information they need until tomorrow morning, and there will undoubtedly be additional delay after that before service can be established. Grr.

This especially sucks because I have a new laptop - a 12" PowerBook G4. It's really cute.

I'm online from Borders right now.

Anyways, I can either continue rambling, or attempt to catch up on my friends list, so I'll stop now.

I haven't been updating as often as I should. I also haven't been responding much to comments and emails. I apologize for this. I just don't feel like it, for some reason :)

For those who don't read [livejournal.com profile] lemurbaby, we found an apartment, and are in the process of moving into it. It's pretty great, considering that we had to find something on very short notice. Very good location. Now we're in the process of getting new stuff (king sized bed, whoo!) and figuring out what of our old stuff to keep and what to get rid of.

We've developed a slow field. Anything we have to order will take longer than expected. This started with my order from gap.com. I placed an order on May 22. It hasn't shipped yet. I want to cancel it, since it barely seems worth it to spend that much on clothing for the time remaining, but I want the clothes, especially the bathing suit, and it's entirely possible I'll end up not having the baby till sometime in August.

Besides, every time I call to check on the status, they give me some additional discount or something.

Every order we've placed since has gone similarly, and it extends to real life too, to some extent. Or perhaps that's just the awful VA drivers :)

I found a doctor. I have an appointment tomorrow.

I had a funny dream last night, about people from Davis finding my journal, and me trying to explain to my boss's boss why I didn't want him reading it. Not because of anything against him personally (we were friends before I got the job, so we have a personal relationship and not just a work relationship), but because I'd written stuff about work in a more candid way than I would if I were talking to him.

I also dreamed that I was graduating from high school again for some reason, and I didn't want to go through the graduation ceremony because I was pregnant, and it would look bad for a high school kid to be pregnant, even if I was 23, halfway through college, etc.

The idea of graduating from high school at 23 didn't seem to bother me at all.

I think I have issues.

Now I must get dressed so we can go find something to eat.

Educational baby toys (and probably the majority of educational toys for older kids) are a capitalist plot. By marketing these flashy, noisy, migraine inducing things as educational, they're implying that if you don't buy it for your kid, they won't be able to develop some vitally important skill and will end up STUPID! Or at least not as smart as all the other kids whose parents were smart/rich/nice/gullible enough to buy their kid a multicolored dancing hippopotamus that sings a different song each time you poke its eye. Look! They're learning hand-eye coordination, cause and effect, and the delight of gouging eyes (utterly vital in the business world. Your child will be a failure if s/he does not learn this as early as possible) all at once!

Because poor deprived kids like Laura Ingalls, who was happy to get a single tin cup for Christmas, were STUPID, you know?

Busy day. Well, once I got moving, anyways.

We decided to go shopping, with a stop for geocaching in downtown Sac. I didn't copy down the actual directions, since it looked from the map like the caches (there were two right close to eachother) were in an area I'm already familiar with. They weren't. We ended up walking in a big circle for about an hour before getting to the graveyard where they were located. We got there at about 5:30. The place closed at 4:30. Oh well. At least it was exercise, and we know where it is now so we can skip the huge walk next time.

On the way back, we stopped at an used bookstore, and picked up a bunch of books. This was not really intended, but being bookaholics, it is physically impossible for us to pass an used bookstore without stopping.

Next, found a goodwill store, as we're both in need of cheap-ish wool sweaters for hiking purposes. The Goodwill store on Arden Way is glassware heaven! There was an absolute ton of it. We grabbed a bunch of it (for candlemaking) and will probably return for more at some point. They also had a seemingly functional sewing machine for $35. Since we'd both been wanting one, we got it.

Then, Arden Fair Mall, where I fulfilled the office's Franklin Covey fetish by getting an organizer with a pocket for my visor. It was $30 off the regular price. Why is it that every time I go somewhere with [livejournal.com profile] koyote, I find exactly what I'm looking for at a much lower price than usual?

After that, dinner at some fish place. Yummy.

Now, jacuzzi in the rain, and then sleep :)

It's been a pretty nice weekend.

Yesterday, we went to a bike swap meet thing. [livejournal.com profile] koyote got a bike, oldish but good, for $100.

In the evening, we went to Dave & Buster's in Milipitas for a friend's birthday party. I've been to D&B (the one in Bethesda, MD) once before. It had been pretty uncrowded, without a whole lot going on. This one, however, was a complete madhouse. Way crowded, plus they had this big old noisy game room in the back. Overwhelming, really. I don't do well with crowds/lots of noise/flashing lights.

Despite everything, I think we all ended up having a good time. I did, anyways.

Today we got the bikes fixed up, and rode out to the nature preserve about 2 miles from my house to do some geocaching. (basically, GPS treasure hunting). Actually, we'd gone after work on Friday, but the area closes at sundown, and they kicked us out just after we got to the right spot. I'm glad we had to go back - it was much more scenic during the day. I like wetland type areas like that a lot.

Since we already knew the general area where we were supposed to be, and it wasn't one of the more difficult ones, we found the cache pretty fast.

Came home and fixed dinner - chicken stovetop stuffing stuff from a mix, except I added sausage and raisins, and salad. Cooking is not my forte (though it turned out decently enough).

Cleaned up the apartment a little, did laundry, and then realized that I have six or so chapters of math due tomorrow, on top of a take home test.

I'm not sure about this whole school thing. Can I take another 5 or so years of this? If I got into some decent study habits, it would probably be ok,
but that's never been my strong point.

Perhaps I should just give in and go back full time for a while. Or give up on the bachelor's degree idea, and just go for one of the certificate programs or an associates degree. I could probably do that in a year or so, since I'd be able to stop all this idiotic math and just do the basic requirements, maybe of which I've already done.

But going back full time for a year or two seems like the smarter of the two options.

I'd love to be able to go to sleep now, but I don't get to. Damn math.

Boots!

Went supply shopping today. On a whim, we stopped into Big 5 (sporting goods store). Didn't really expect to get anything, but they had a great sale on boots. We both got nice Levi's leather boots, which ordinarily cost about $90, for $20/pair. I also got a second pair of ordinary cheapo hiking boots for $10 (down from about $40).

I'm quite happy - I expected to pay significantly more than that for boots this winter :)
