Leif fell asleep at 8:30. He hasn't done this in months. He had two brief naps today, but he doesn't usually compensate for lack of naps by falling asleep quite this early. I'm hoping that this is an actual night-night, and not a really really late nap. And that he isn't sick. [livejournal.com profile] koyote suggests possibly a growth spurt.

I didn't get one of the UC Davis jobs. No big surprise there. I hold no hope for the other one, seeing as the interview went worse and it's been forever. This isn't totally a bad thing - I had serious doubts about working for that department again, but would have felt obligated to take a job if offered, just because it was a job.

The ladder up to the loft is boarded off again, after we twice discovered him up in the loft when our backs were turned for 10 seconds. It's just a wee bit too heart-attack inducing.

Leif has peed in the potty three times now with basically no prompting.
Talking about excrement and stuff. Many of you probably don't really care. )

Of course, it would be nice if he'd learn to sit on the potty, rather than standing on top of it...

It suddenly turned very windy, in that eerie pre-storm way.

Perhaps tornadoes are about to destroy Davis.

UPS claims, both on their website and via phone, that a package whose last known destination (as of the 19th) is Hodkins, IL is going to be delivered today. They have under two hours left. I'm not holding my breath.

UPS needs a Snow Crash delivery policy.

I haven't heard back yet about either of the jobs I interviewed for. This has left me kind of depressed, though I know that they have to schedule the next interview with someone who is currently out of town. I asked one of the people in the department whether I'd been rejected or not, and was told they were still doing first interviews (it's a university, so they have to go through all the interviews regardless of whether they already have someone in mind or not), so I feel a little better about that, especially since I feel that interview went pretty well overall.

The other interview I'm not so sure about. The interviewers weren't as friendly (which I think was just a personality thing), and while I gave at least some decent answers, I had a bit of a Alyson Hannigan-esque "This one time, in Software Licensing..." thing going. At least I managed to resist making inappropriate comments along those lines once I realized I was doing it, though it perhaps would have improved my standings with one of the interviewers, who is fairly notorious.

I should probably clean up the mess from the cookies I gave Leif to distract him from the fact that his da went out without him. What a good parent I am.

On the other hand, he is currently sticking cookies between his toes and waving his feet in the air, which is unbelievably weird and adorable.

We're moving back to Davis in 1-2 weeks.

We are hoping that this is not an incredibly stupid move. I've applied for a job (several, actually), but due to HR slowness, haven't actually heard anything yet. There is no real reason I shouldn't get this job except for politics (it's in the department where I used to work, which will probably work in my favor, but possibly against me).

We're told that there is much consulting work in Sacramento, so we should be able to earn enough from that to survive if necessary.

It's nerve wracking to move somewhere without being sure of a job, though.

And now we have to figure out how to get our stuff moved.

We do want and plan to do the boat-living thing again in the future. This just seems like a good opportunity to get in a better financial position for it and to work out our unresolved Davis issues.

[livejournal.com profile] koyote left for England yesterday afternoon, so it's just me and the baby till Friday.

I decided to try going to La Leche League, but it turns out it meets on the second Thursday of the month, not the second Tuesday, so we hung out at Starbucks instead.

This wouldn't have really been a problem, except that it started pouring rain shortly after we left home, so we got a little wet and broke an umbrella. Oh well.

I swear, I'm either dyslexic or going psychotic and seeing what I want to see, rather than what is actually there. I could have sworn the website said the second Tuesday.

I'm working on Leif's lemur costume. It ain't going to look professional, but hopefully it'll at least look cute and a little lemur-like. I'm gluing white felt on the front of a grey sweatsuit, and I made a gray hat that I'll attach black and white ears to. And then I have to make a tail to safety in on the back.

I'm having fun with the sewing machine, anyways.

Today I put in a resume for a job at a local new age shop. They had a sign on their door advertising for a part time web site maintainer, 5-10 hours a week. It sounds like they just want someone to take pictures and stick them on the site. If so, it should be pretty much perfect for me, as long as they don't need anything significantly more artistic than adjusting contrast.

I'm writing an article about elimination communication for kuro5hin.org, though I kind of wonder if it's a pointless effort. Is a geek oriented site going to care one bit about baby pee? Even if it's subversive, questioning authority baby pee?
