Leif fell asleep at 8:30. He hasn't done this in months. He had two brief naps today, but he doesn't usually compensate for lack of naps by falling asleep quite this early. I'm hoping that this is an actual night-night, and not a really really late nap. And that he isn't sick. [livejournal.com profile] koyote suggests possibly a growth spurt.

I didn't get one of the UC Davis jobs. No big surprise there. I hold no hope for the other one, seeing as the interview went worse and it's been forever. This isn't totally a bad thing - I had serious doubts about working for that department again, but would have felt obligated to take a job if offered, just because it was a job.

The ladder up to the loft is boarded off again, after we twice discovered him up in the loft when our backs were turned for 10 seconds. It's just a wee bit too heart-attack inducing.

Leif has peed in the potty three times now with basically no prompting.
Talking about excrement and stuff. Many of you probably don't really care. )

Of course, it would be nice if he'd learn to sit on the potty, rather than standing on top of it...

Well, that was fun.
Don't read unless you're a parent or otherwise inured to talk of infant excretion )

I want to buy [livejournal.com profile] lemurbaby a paid account and make a phone post of him babbling for Christmas, but there's no way I'm going to manage to explain .ogg files to my family, so what's the point?

I can't take his Christmas picture either, because our tree burned out. That sounds wrong. We have this fiber optics Christmas tree, and the lightbulb burnt out. I'm debating whether to bother or not. I'm making a calendar for my family, and just need a December picture. I could stick something non-seasonal in there instead. But it's not going to get there before Christmas at this point anyways, so I guess I'll just wait and see if I can get a good picture within the next few days.

Maybe one of Leif surrounded by piles of wrapping paper.

But the other thing I wanted to do was make an online holiday card thing, since we haven't managed to send out Christmas cards this year. Ugh. I'll think of something.

I'm so far behind on everything.

How in the world do you gift wrap stuffed animals (besides sticking them in a bag)?

I still haven't submitted that EC article. I need to rewrite the introduction so that it will catch the interest of male geeks who aren't parents, and who may have no real intention of ever being parents, as well as a few other minor changes. But I'm being lazy and procrastinating.

I have things I need to do for all three classes. I really need to finish all work I'm behind on before I leave for vacation, since the final due date is while I'm gone. That's not till the 20th, but time will fly.

[livejournal.com profile] koyote has me converted. Recumbant bicycles rock, even if people do look at you funny.

Every so often I realize how weird we are. This happened again today, as I stepped off the bike trail, where [livejournal.com profile] koyote waited with our stoller jam-packed full of groceries and a recumbant bicycle, to take my 4 month old baby to the bushes to pee.

I got sunburned today. In November. It was like 80 degrees. And it's snowing on the fires in the mountains.

It's odd running into people on LJ that you know, or at least know of, in real life. Especially in a context utterly unrelated to anything else we might have in common.

I upgraded to Panther the other day. The appearance changes irritate me somewhat, and I can't figure out how to switch it back. Not that I've tried all that hard.

Ginger People ginger peanut chews are good. They remind me of Thai food. Next person I know who gets pregnant gets a bag of Ginger People chews, though not peanut. Probably spicy apple.

I just realized I bought both ginger chews and gingerbread at Whole Foods today.

I gave in and ate two more of them. The person who first told me about these damn things warned me they were addictive.

I really must sew more. Writing stupid LJ entries like this and pining over things I don't have and probably will never get (at least not for Leif) is distracting me, though.

I should stop babbling, post this, and do something useful. Or sleep.

[livejournal.com profile] koyote left for England yesterday afternoon, so it's just me and the baby till Friday.

I decided to try going to La Leche League, but it turns out it meets on the second Thursday of the month, not the second Tuesday, so we hung out at Starbucks instead.

This wouldn't have really been a problem, except that it started pouring rain shortly after we left home, so we got a little wet and broke an umbrella. Oh well.

I swear, I'm either dyslexic or going psychotic and seeing what I want to see, rather than what is actually there. I could have sworn the website said the second Tuesday.

I'm working on Leif's lemur costume. It ain't going to look professional, but hopefully it'll at least look cute and a little lemur-like. I'm gluing white felt on the front of a grey sweatsuit, and I made a gray hat that I'll attach black and white ears to. And then I have to make a tail to safety in on the back.

I'm having fun with the sewing machine, anyways.

Today I put in a resume for a job at a local new age shop. They had a sign on their door advertising for a part time web site maintainer, 5-10 hours a week. It sounds like they just want someone to take pictures and stick them on the site. If so, it should be pretty much perfect for me, as long as they don't need anything significantly more artistic than adjusting contrast.

I'm writing an article about elimination communication for kuro5hin.org, though I kind of wonder if it's a pointless effort. Is a geek oriented site going to care one bit about baby pee? Even if it's subversive, questioning authority baby pee?

Since every single person who has commented on my cloth diaper post both on-journal and off has suggested a diaper service, I'll go ahead and respond with a post instead of to each person individually :)

We are looking into it, especially during the month before we move - the laundry room here is coin operated, often too crowded, and just far enough away to be annoying. Laundry has, in the past year and a half, changed from one of my more tolerable chores to a source of never-ending torture. I think I just might go insane trying to do cloth diapers here along with everything else that comes with being a new mother and moving.

When we move, a washing machine is one of my top priorities :)

We're also looking into elimination communication. Sounds like it's at least worth a try. That's unlikely to cut down on the diaper laundry short term, but, if it works, it would in the long run.

(And if you tell me I'm naive or crazy, I'm just not going to listen to you. So there :)
