I'm in the process of importing my old k5 diary entries into LJ. If you notice any random weird entries from me popping up, just ignore them. I probably forgot to backdate them, and will go back and do it later.

Sometimes I'm reminded how lucky I am...

One of the people on kuro5hin.org has a son with Dubowitz Syndrome.

He posted a diary entry stating that his son now weighed 16lb 9oz.

His son was about 18 months old at that point.

Leif is 3 months, and weighs 14lbs.

*grin* Inspired by [livejournal.com profile] kcm, I just announced that I'm pregnant in my kuro5hin.org journal.

That should cause a little confusion. I wish I'd thought to do it earlier in the day.

Update: I just did it to the wastelanders mailing list, too :)

Vegemite

Original: http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2002/3/19/15631/6875

Several years ago, at some Girl Scout international day thing, I tried vegemite. Actually, I'm not sure I tried it. I may have smelled it and refused to try it.

Which is what any sane person would do upon smelling it.

..But it doesn't have anything to do with the rain being gone. In fact, it hasn't rained in weeks, and that was just a piddly drizzle.

Also, a note to anyone who actually follows my journal.

Random k5 question of the day - anyone know where #genx is located these days?

That, and homelessness, frivolous lawsuits, and other things that can ruin your day.

M* Clients

Original: http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2001/5/13/33751/1122

I'm looking for a good unix command line MUD/MOO/MWhatever client. It needs to handle local editing (or uploading text from a file), ANSI color, and have reasonable scrollback capabilities. Anything else is not terribly important.

Stupid names

Original: http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2001/5/8/21056/42600

Murder Burger was pretty much a Davis establishment, one of the few places I'd heard of before I moved here. If you ask someone to name a hamburger place in Davis, they'd probably name Murder Burger.

Not surprisingly, the name was somewhat controversial. Though people in Davis didn't really mind it, apparently people in the city where the other branch is located complained. And their sales go down every time there's a school shooting or other high profile murder.

So they had a contest to change the name. Yesterday we drove by, and the new name was up. And the winning entry was...

(Also, a plea for a roommate)

Are you aware of the risks of living?

Original: http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2001/4/4/05019/61091

I'm curious as to why Job's Daughters (a masonic group for teenage girls) is named as such. Job's daughters sat around eating and drinking with their brothers, and were killed when their house collapsed on them in a windstorm during one of their feasts.

This just seems odd to me. My roommate's explanation is that there's not really any other groups of girls listed in Bible. Noah's daughters would certainly be worse role models.

That had no relevance on anything whatsoever, except that I'm feeling slightly akin to Job at the moment myself. As you may imagine, the rest is likely to be very whiny. Don't read it if you don't want to read whiny stuff, or I'll have no sympathy for you if you complain.

Just when you think everything is going great....

Original: http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2001/3/19/164619/890

Yesterday afternoon I went out and practiced driving with a friend of mine (yes, I'm 21, and haven't bothered to get my license yet). It went pretty well. We even got off of the back country roads and drove around the town and on the freeway for a while.

After dinner, we decided to drive out to Fry's and get me a new network card (I killed the old one). He fell asleep for a short bit on the way there, and when he woke up, realized that I'd managed to get us on the completely wrong freeway. By this time, it was dark, and I was stressed out and tired, so before turning around and going back, we switched places. Drove back, found Fry's, got the card, and went home.

At least that's how I wish it had gone...

Original: http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2001/3/15/0216/27725

This morning, I woke up at around 6:15 (an hour and 15 minutes before I usually wake up). Lay in bed for about 15 minutes worrying about work and taxes, and realized that I wasn't going to get back to sleep. So I got up and went for a run.

Fun with License Plates

Original: http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2001/3/2/3254/60745

I took a test tonight, and afterwards decided that I wanted a mocha. Nevermind that it was after 9 pm, and that I've been having insomniacal tendencies for the past week or so, and that tomorrow is Hell Day, and likely to be much busier than usual to boot. I wanted a mocha, and I think I did good on the test, so I deserve it, damnit!

Anyway, the result of this is that I'm finally feeling motivated to write up the diary entry I've been tossing around in my head for the past few weeks about license plates. No! Don't stop reading! It'll be interesting, really! (At least I hope. It may end up being as much of a rambly, incoherent mess as this intro copy).
