A hit and run accident took place about 20 feet from me today. I'd just crossed the street, and stopped to look at a newspaper headline (the one about the potential for a bioterrorism attack against the milk supply), when there was a big crash behind me. Without even thinking about it, I jumped further away from the street, then looked to see what was happening. A grey minivan started to pull over, and then sped away. I had my camera with me from taking pictures of Leif in his "I am 2 today!" shirt, and took a few pictures, but I didn't react quite fast enough, and you can't really see the car in either.

Luckily, he left his front license plate behind. Karma.

The driver of the other car was rather shaken, of course, but fine. Her car was pretty messed up, and they had to get a tow truck (there happened to be one right there on the scene - he'd taken off in chase of the other driver, but came back quickly after he lost him) to get it out of the intersection.

It was scary realizing that 30 seconds earlier, and I would have been in the intersection itself (I actually forgot about reading the newspaper headline, and thought I'd been in the last quarter of the intersection until about an hour afterwards, when seeing someone pour milk reminded me of the article). If Leif had been with me and had hesitated at all in the street, it could have been bad. Or, of course, it might have prevented it entirely, if there had actually been people in the crosswalk at the time.

Anyways, that's quite enough excitement for the day for me.

Is it just me, or is it kind of odd for a baby shirt to show an impending head-on collision?

(The words say "BEEP!")

It's windy and wet here, but so far not much worse than a normal storm. We're hiding out at AOL because [livejournal.com profile] koyote is considered "essential personnel" and is stuck here, and Leif and I may as well be here, too. At least the power/network won't go out. [livejournal.com profile] livyanne (and anyone else in the path), how are you holding up?

I possess a comfy chair from the Trashcan of Treasures. [livejournal.com profile] koyote obtained a quite decent bike, as well. Presumably from the same people, since they showed up at the same time, and were sitting right next to eachother.

There was a round table also, but we did not want that.

Davis is great that way. People just throw things away when they leave. Silly people. We'll get a decent profit from the bike, since we'll be able to sell either it or one of the other bikes (depending on which of them work best for our purposes).

Anyways, comfy chair means I can now hang out in the living room again, instead of on the bed.

Classes are all over. I should be getting all A's. Yay. Icky stressful lawsuit stuff is also over (for now). I have a week of relative nothingness before classes start up again.

It was damn hot today. Wandering around downtown Sacramento in a black velour shirt on a 100 degree day is not comfortable. However, jumping in a pool is. This is the one true benefit of living in an apartment - pools are the norm (at least in this price range), rather than the exception.

I'm debating whether to ask my lawyer to delay the deposition (for the idiotic lawsuit) for 2 weeks or so. I have so much to get done this week, and if I could put this off until after finals were over and done with, it would be nice.

At the time, my attention is split between the interrogatories (which I should mail by Friday) and an essay that's due Thursday. I'd really like to just worry about one or the other.

On the other hand, it might be better to just get everything over and done with, so I can have my two weeks of relative lack of stress before summer classes start.

So, I'm being sued for the car accident I caused a year ago. Whee.

It sounds like everything will work out alright. More information whenever I can talk about it freely.

I'm sitting here listening to the various ring tones on my cell phone in an attempt to get the battery to run down entirely so I can recharge it. It's new, so I'm supposed to let the battery cycle fully in order to get fullest battery life in the future. It's nearly dead, but not quite. I need it to finish running down so I can plug it in before I go to sleep.

It kind of clashes with BNL, though.

For some reason, when I'm upset or nervous about something, I write. It's about the only time I write creativly. Today I wrote two pages of a story that's been floating around in my head for several months now. After Sept. 11 I went on a big creative spurt and wrote some awful poetry and even worse stories. Godawful junk. I think it helped though. Tonight's wasn't nearly so godawful (IMO, anyways). Certainly more upbeat. I think it has potential if I ever manage to think up a coherent plotline. Unfortunatly, the characters are based on people I know, so none of you all will ever get to read it :)

Yesterday afternoon I went out and practiced driving with a friend of mine (yes, I'm 21, and haven't bothered to get my license yet). It went pretty well. We even got off of the back country roads and drove around the town and on the freeway for a while.

After dinner, we decided to drive out to Fry's and get me a new network card (I killed the old one). He fell asleep for a short bit on the way there, and when he woke up, realized that I'd managed to get us on the completely wrong freeway. By this time, it was dark, and I was stressed out and tired, so before turning around and going back, we switched places. Drove back, found Fry's, got the card, and went home.

At least that's how I wish it had gone...
