Another seller on ebay copied the picture from one of our auctions. This would be only minorly stinky, except that he claims the picture is a generic photo from HP's website, while specifically mentioning that our auction has the same photo!

We've received very few bids since that auction was posted (though there's no way of telling if this is related or not). We can't modify our description because the auction ends in 3 hours. Basically, he's screwing us by saying the picture we are using is not an actual picture of the item we're selling.

[livejournal.com profile] koyote brings up the fact that this is basically interstate fraud. Whee! :)

I don't know what it is about ebay. For months we go along with everything going fine, and within the past 3 weeks we have several non-paid items, a $300 item gone missing (after we shipped it), and now this. Grr.

I assume you've at least notified eBay that the other poster is (a) fraudulently interfering with your auction and (b) stealing your photo? Could send a nastygram to the effect of "Look, we know you stole our photo, we have the original, the license fee for this photo is [selling price of his item], or we can take you to court over it....."

Oh yeah, and I'd leave negative feedback on the asshole ... "Stole our photos, made false claims, tried to interfere with our auctions"

The missing $300 Thing magically turned up in today's mail, after I told the guy I was going to start a package trace on it.

(Bogus claim - can't do package trace on an uninsured overseas package. I made the claim in good faith, because the USPS goof told me to do that, then the next one I spoke to said "You can't do that on international blah blah" and did I say it was international to the first goof? Repeatedly.)

Only now Canadian Guy is pissed because he had to pay $75 and change in fees. Bah.

[livejournal.com profile] deyo once tried to sell his car, failed to get a decent price, but right around when he gave up, he found a craigslist ad for a neon that embedded the photo we took of his car. The neon described wasn't really like his car at all -- it was white, his is blue. But the picture was his car. So he went on images.google.com, found a white neon that had clearly been in a crash, and substituted it (with the same file name) for the picture of his blue neon in his images folder.

I have no idea what became of the car for sale. The ad said the seller would be showing it the night before, so maybe it had already sold by then.

I have a whole lot of people deep linking images from my website as avatars on forums and stuff like that.. Come November they're going to be redirecting to "VOTE KERRY" images ;>

I remember that :)

Unfortunately, he didn't just link to our picture - we both used ebay hosting. If he had just linked to our picture, we'd be doing similar.
