You know that ringtone that adults can't hear that kids are using to send text messages during class?

I listened to the mp3 and thought maybe it was just a blank hoax file, until Leif asked "What's that noise?"

THe existence of the tone is unquestionable -- it was publicized as a crowd control thing a while back, stores playing to so teens wouldn't hang out. But the question I've seen raised on the ringtone is whether cell speakers are capable of reproducing it. Some say no.

I believe it exists, I just wasn't sure if this particular file was for real (though I suppose NPR isn't really the type to put up hoaxes :)
